Nice-looking bike.

I made my Daihatsu-Ural with 2 tanks, to use diesel to start and then veg oil on long runs when warm - since I read that partially-burned SVO in a cold engine gums-up rings etc. It was aimed for long runs, since I only have one fuel filter which means one would have to switch back to diesel some time before end of run, to draw all the Veg Oil off the filter and re-prime whole system with diesel ready to re-start on return journey.

When I started the project (>4 years ago) veg oil was very cheap. Now the best deal I can find locally is £16 for 20l, or 80p a litre - a 20% saving on pump DERV. This has not presented sufficient temptation for me to bring second tank into play, yet. If doing this, remember both tanks need taps on send and return, to avoid ending up with 2 tanks full of a mixture.

Cossack club rally in Dent, nr Kirby Lonsdale this weekend. First long-ish run - will report on progress...

cheers

If your use is typically leave home and return home with out much stops inbetween an alternative is to install a coolant heater that you plug in at home. Use this to preheat engine. Your start on diesel and can switch to veg very early. You will still need to switch back to diesel a bit from home to flush. Not as critical though if you plug up the coolant heater. Yes even in warm weather.

Im considering one tanking my diesel bike and putting blended fuel in it (veg and diesel) BUT... use a propane coolant heater to prewarm the engine to normal operating temperatures first. Propane cause at home I have no electricity. Work I do.
