A few years ago I used a stainless steel bathroom grab bar to build my son a "custom" exhaust, as required by all 12 year old males for their John Deere lawn tractors. It worked great, and he has undoubtedly incurred permanent hearing loss as a result. It acquired a lovely brownish patina over time to to give it that "vintage" look. I found another grab bar at the ReStore for $5 from which I was able to cut 2 pipes with turn-out tips for the Yanclone. I had a flange lying around that only needed minor filing to fit. Incidentally, the exhaust flange for the Yanclone is the same as a stock older style VW air-cooled flange. So, total cost for the exhaust is thus $2.50, if you don't count that little chrome heat shield positioned so as to keep from torching the pants. I have plenty of stainless flat stock lying about with which to fabricate a rear hanger.

Inexpensive Exhaust
In addition to our other vices, some of us are not beyond scrounging our parts from some novel sources. We have a Habitat For Humanity ReStore just a mile away that carries any number of great things for what sometimes amounts to just pennies. Below are several post highlighting the use of "construction material" incorporated into my Yanclone build.

Wow, I never thought about using stainless grab bars! I have a ReStore about 6 miles away, I'll check them out before putting in an order for stainless tubing! Plus I'm sure the bends are better than I'd do. Nice looking bike by the way. I wish mine was that far along.
