km-report
35.000 km with the 418 china engine.
Maybe not much for any normal motorbike, but i'm positive about the quality delivered so far.
Had to replace the regulator a few months ago. Valve Tappet play don't change since the last 10K.

Re: km-report
That's a huge amount of Miles Dave = cool ! That kicks Charley Boorman's Miles ...... loll "Been hooked on his adventures". Arnaud! your going well to mate, you guys are doing a lot of Miles/Kilometers.
I've clocked up approx 12,000 Kilometers. Since I have converted the bike and registered it for the road this is what I have done.
One rear tyre "and certainly not from doing burnouts either " Old tyre was showing wear and very old.
Threw away the stupid solenoid setup to shut down engine, Enfield kill switch died so power didn't get to the solenoid and no go, plus the stator doesn't need extra drain.
Welded up the chain guard many times, at the end doing an over engineer job which hasn't broken again "Fingers crossed"
New handlebars, grips and electric switches etc.
New battery
New front guard as the old one was getting to rusty "Cosmetic overhaul"
New front parking lights and metal surrounds "Cosmetic overhaul"
New Headlight and surround "Cosmetic overhaul"
Numerous globes "who said the Enfield wouldn't rattle .... loll"
As with Dave, lots of loctite
The engine has been great, starts easy using no oil which I replace every 2500 K's due to the thrashing it gets.
Top speed reached 115 kph on a front 17 tooth sprocket/standard rear = has to be the speedo going crazy surely. Max RPM 4080 = Tiny Tach is handy. So I pushed the engine a little to hard, 4000 rpm I feel is a N.E speed.
I really need a disc brake front end
PS: So what are you now wanting to do? For me its:
A more comfortable seat, the springer seat is as hard as hell and really makes you fatigued.
I'd love to get an extra 3hp from the engine, maybe gas injection.
Saddle bags or something to put all my junk in, that will mean more weight needing more hp !
As mentioned before - Disc brake front end and maybe a screen if I'm able to raise hp !
Something to counteract the throttle from pulling so damn hard on my wrist when at highway speed. How do you guy's go pulling against the governor? Anything above 80Klhr for long periods can be hell.
That's about it I think.

Re: km-report
The governer on an china diesel goes very light, a carburettor pulls harder..
Disk brake..so ugly. I have the front brake shoes equipped with ferodo AM 4 (green) and now it breaks very well.
In my -modest- 35 K i am on my 3rd rear tyre( a new rear tyre was slashed after 1000km, luckily it was a very bad chinese tyre) The current mitas rear tyre is despite its price a relief from the std avon (roadmaster? the flat profile) especially when wet.
-Second front tyre(heidenau, grips well)
-3rd rear chain, second sprocket set (really need renewel after this chain)
- one set of front fork legs
-second set of rear brake shoes (the original were made of very poor alu-alloy, both were broken when i dismounted the rear wheel. Replaced them, and some other rear end parts by parts made in an indian factory where they produce parts for many cars, mopeds etc, so imitation, and cheaper and far better quality)
-one set of rear wheel bearings, the first one collapsed due to an too short sleeve between both..
-2 voltage regulators
-2 alloy front fork retainer caps.

Re: km-report
Great idea Dave! I'll have to invest in one of them for sure. Might be my next chuggy diesel purchase on ebay!
Arnuad, maybe you have your governor cable pulling from a different spot as 4 hrs of high speed riding absolutely kills my arm (Remember I'm running the engine up to 4k). It definately pulls heaps harder then a carb setup, I still have two dirt bikes that don't worry me. Due to geographic location I ride them all day with long stints between tight bush without a problem. We also have crazy bastards in trucks/cars here which will run you over if your not at least doing the speed limit . Most roads are posted between 90 - 110Kph where I am. I have to say the throttle is really light at low speeds though, a real blessing if you've been riding for a long time on highways.
I noticed you have a tiny tach Dave! What do you think about them? Not a bad little device I feel, glad I put it on. Have you been game enough to check the max rpm for sluggy?
Guess that's another thing I done - installed the Tiny Tach
Damn! Just thought about it - the Enfield throttled died so I put a motocross throttle on, that also explains why it is pulling harder due to the larger diameter of the cable pull.
Post Edit !
Just purchased one cramp buster.

Re: km-report
Yes, i already had a suspicion about the rpm range of the engine..
i welded a 3cm lever on the upper governer thingy and have an regular throttle grip. It has about the same amount of twist as a normal bike..
I must admit, i seldom cruise over 90km/h( with 18 tht gearbox sprocket) because i don't want to rev it to pieces.. it feels not right, although i have to realize it is not a long-stroke engine..

Re: km-report
Andy,
According to my spreadsheet your 4080rpm equates to 96kph or 59mph for a normal sized rear tyre.
Max I've run old Sluggy to is about 3800 which is about 60mph/100kph with the larger 4.00 rear tyre fitted.
Cheers
Dave

Re: km-report
Hi Dave
I'm running a Dunlop 4.10 H 19 rear tyre and think it is considerably larger then the stock Avon ones. The last check of the tacho reads nearly 4165 rpm, time to slow up a bit I think.
The Enfield speedo is absolutely terrible, the needle jumps all around the place. The fastest I've run by the speedo was around 115/117 down hill and a steady 110 on the flat with wind behind.
I try and keep the engines rpm below 3800rpm, if I knew gearing it up wouldn't rob me of the little acceleration I get now I'd probably go for it
One good thing with this time of year, the air is nice and cold "now being winter in the southern hemisphere" so reasonable power can be obtained.
Update! Just took notice - the engine sits around 3600rpm at 100kph , so that larger tyre must give some good roll out. Also tested the cramp buster for the first time today = absolute ripper Dave.

Re: km-report
I've seen more odometers like that. However, mine is stable and quite accurate, so if you can lay your hands on an other specimen it might be worth the effort.
(35.550 km today)

Re: km-report
Reached 37 K last week
In about a year i think the primary drive needs an overhaul..
Maybe i'll install the clutch with extra plates (modified version)since these release better (,so am i told) and look for a new crankshaft sprocket, since it is not easy to get a fitting one with hardened teeth crown.
(maybe priceparts, beckedorf or sommer will have one fitting on the 25.4mm shaft)
Greetings
