doddy (Alan Dodridge, Belfast)

Post by doddy »

Hi all,

I'm a bike and Daihatsu Diesel fan but not in the same vehicle for some time to come...

I have a 1986 Charade TD and a 1983 Honda CB125 RS.
The Charade is tatty but goes well and doesn't smoke which is nice.
The CB125 had a genuine 200 miles on the clock when I got it 6 months ago :>

So anyway basically I'm looking for engine details for the diesel motor...
I have full engine manual for the CB23/60/70/80 three cylinder petrol NA/Turbo engines but nothing for the CL60/61.

Cheers,
doddy

200 miles... on an '83 bike... that's a felony you know!
'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up stainless exhaust, check engine rpm and change final drive sprocket.

welcome aboard and look forward to your contributions in here.

amazing to have such low milage on a bike. Resuluts of Improper storage suprisingly can require tons of work to get them running to though.

Hey Doddy

Welcome to the forum mate, lots of great guy's here with really neat craftsman builds, something to give you that spark to start a build :).

Northern Ireland hey! Sweet, that's where my relies come from a couple of generations ago. Love the music and scenery I've seen, might be the migration genes kicking in :).

Down in prison Island here  = Australia

A ;)

Hey Alan -
I've got a Ural-Daihatsu - photo in general chat section. I bought a non-turbo factory manual for charade diesel from NZ ebay of all places. It's not very informative - mostly exploded diagrams and torque-wrench settings. Nothing on what order to take things apart, or how to get them back together. Is there anything specific you need to know?
cheers
Mark

Sorry for zombie-ing this thread but I just came along here to register and realised I've already been here before!

(Very) belated Thanks for the welcomes.

I kinda wrecked my Charade a few years ago and it's been in my driveway ever since "not eating any grass".
It was my first diesel and I think the MPG and reliability went to my head a bit such that I didn't do the sensible thing and check the oil levels.

It started blowing the oil cap off and one day on a drive from Dublin to Belfast I lost it. I bought an emergency fuel filler cap in m'way services and got home. Having a spare engine, I should have replaced the proper cap but being all proud of my "fix" I left it in. Fast forward a couple of months and I'd done the timing belt / water pump and was feeling pretty good about the wee car. Another Dublin - Belfast run, flat to the mat around the Newry by-pass and...

Any guesses?

So I'm not ready to give up on it yet. I might put the head back on the spare engine and test compression. Reckon I need rings to fix the other one. Question - where to get em? Do Yanmar rings fit?

I would doubt it. The engine is a Diahatsu also sold as a 3cyl by Briggs and Stratt. Should not be hard to find parts cause same engine is used in many things from UTV's (Kawaski Mule for example) Fork lifts, Hydrostatic Zero Turn Mowers etc etc
