Re: Delete posts? How?
I think you can't. It's a prerogative admins have to bestow upon a user group anyway. Personally I think deleting posts is undesirable, as well as editing posts after a certain length of time has passed. Every forum at one point has a disgruntled member that starts replacing their posts with "." because they were told off by someone. A lot of the times, the result is an incomprehensible thread, unless someone replied to the removed posting including a quote.

Re: Delete posts? How?
Good point. I guess admins have to fix that (reed: Neil).

Re: Delete posts? How?
Good point guys. What do you want to do about this Stuart? I suggest people just edit their post to mark it for deletion then admins occasionally come along and wipe em.

Sounds good to me. Didn't realise ppl couldn't delete their posts. I guess the new forum is different in subtle ways. Anyway, it helps keep things tidy.

Re: Delete posts? How?
as a moderator/admin myself, I once was house cleaning classifieds and another Mod stopped me. He made one hell of a good point. Sold adds help folk to determine the value of things they are considering selling. If you have the room, might I suggest you move sold ads to a new forum called... Sold Archives or something to that affect.

Re: Delete posts? How?
Sounds like a good idea coachgeo. Theres still quite a bit of room on here and not too much traffic. Suggest we change to putting *Sold* in the topic header and then mods move to a new forum. Sound ok Stuart?

Re: Delete posts? How?
Anything the original poster can do to help makes our lives a little easier is a good thing. I'm all for ppl changing the heading to sold and if you think you can do anything to improve things Won't be able to move stuff myself all the time though

Re: Delete posts? How?
If there's plenty of room, I wouldn't bother with the overhead of moving threads. Just have the posters edit the titles to include [EXPIRED] or [SOLD].

Re: Delete posts? How?
in phpbb you can move numerous threads into a new forum very easily. Just check all the boxes of threads you want moved. Hit the move button, select "sold archive" forum and whala... its done. A once a month or so is all it takes.Stuart wrote:... Won't be able to move stuff myself all the time though
Though what you say about users changing thread title to SOLD works ok too. Newer things push the older ones down anyway to back pages. Just a tiny bit cleaner the other way.

Re: Delete posts? How?
Hmm, can you guys move your own posts? If not the admins would still need the messages flagged as sold and then the admins can do it. Seems sensible to setup a new thread for sold items to keep them for posterity

Perhaps you can start a trial, see if the crowd is mature enough

Re: Delete posts? How?
How does this sound, we keep things as they are, adminitrators ax the please delete posts sign, and we just modify our posts as we have in the past.
All this is making me thursty, and damn, where is the FEDEX guy with that 41lbs of brand new polished Ultima 6 speed, see, I knew if I'd stick around here enough, I'd learn something.
Thanks Guys,
Dave
