uttoxeter classic motorcycle show 4th & 5th July 2009

Anybody facy going, over 60 major classic & vintage club stands booked.
All major British European & Japanese club attending, 700 bikes entered and 6 clubs rallies booked. Anybody fancy going just drop me a line and I can organise.

Should be good, it has been the last few years and getting bigger every year. I will leave it a few weeks before I apply to see if any more want to go. But if its just us two we will get a fair bit of interest. Camping is no problem as its held on the racecourse.

I have been sent the application form today. I didnt ask for it they sent it as I am a VJMC member and I exhibited last year. A little more about it,
Setting up starts Friday 3rd july from 1pm-9pm. Bar and food available Friday & Saturday night. Live bands Friday & Saturday night. Camping no problem with 24 hour security. Show 9:30 to 5 Sat, 9:30 to 4pm Sun. Last year 10,000 attended, this year should be bigger.
Just me and Dave so far, but I would like a couple more and then we could realy make our presents felt. More than at the Bat & ball, & I am not knocking it, because its very good, diesel bikes & diesel bikers but I think we need to show to the wider motorcycle population, as most say " I didnt know diesel bikes existed." Anybody thinking of going needs to be comitted as I have to let them know the details of the bikes being exhibiting.

Sorry Sam - unfortunately got a wedding (not mine) arranged that day that I've already agreed to attend. I'd like to have gone otherwise.

Heartily agree with your sentiments though - the Bat & Ball is great but let's face it, most there already have diesel bikes. Getting out to a few of the bigger shows is a great way to promote interest in something few people realise even exists.

Just to let everbody know we have been allocated a space in the main marquee for "THE DIESEL MOTORCYCLE COLLECTION" what this means is we have a realy good spot so try to make it if you can, the more the better.

Tom Veevers rang up last night, he will be coming to Uttoxeter show together with his lowrider diesel. So it looks like its going to be a good show.

I've just put 60 miles on my bike over Friday/Saturday making sure she's up to the journey north to the Uttoxeter show. So far so good. Nice to have beast thundering away under me as I came up from the coast and great feeling that torque never let up while the cars around me visible slowed on some of the inclines I encountered.
I'll be sorting out the camping gear soon then and studying the map. I might just take that M6 toll road to avoid the jams as I'll be hitting Birmingham mid to late afternoon if all goes well

Sorry chaps it clashes with the Big Battlesbridge Bike fest.Hundreds of old bikes and lots of stands with lovely old jumble.
Battlesbridge in Essex near Rayliegh they have a motorcycle museum as well.Free if you go on an old or interesting bike.

Well the shows over and what a grand time we had.

7 bikes on our display with Tom's little lowrider in prime position for drawing in the punters.

The weather held up well in the main with only one downpour having us hide under cover for the 10 minutes it lasted, it was certainly hot enough with the sun out.

Lots of classic Jappo stuff to look at in the lurid pink and purple candies that were so popular of the 1970's, more fizzies than you could shake a stick at too

I think we all managed to pick up a few Autojumble bargains as well.

I'll leave others to post a few piccies as I forgot the camera.

Thanks for organising Sam as well as the eggs & bacon brekkie.

Well Done chaps I took the lonely road to battlesbridge.Lots of interest in the Diesel Bike and Dozen or More Enfields.Lots of odd ball bikes like a push bike with a lawn mower engine I will post pic soon.
It would be nice to have more diesel meets.
I can at last kick over my Engine and the leaky push rod tunnel leaks no more.
I have secured the errant Silencer with a big chunk of industrial iron lets see the Bugger break that and the light bulbs have stopped blowing.
Wonder what my next challenge will be.

Yes, well done Sam for putting it all together and supplying the eggs (be they chicken, turkey or peacock)

The Ruggerfield got there and back under its own steam ok. I'll get some pictures up when I've time. It was good to meet the ppl who helped me find out about and get my bike and meet others I only ever communicated with on email

Well Stu, at least you know the bike's waterproof!!!!!

I should explain, we were going home in convoy down the M1, me in the camper with the Tiger on the trailer and Stu on the Ruggerfield doing it properly.

We pulled into Leicester Forrest services for a coffee and sat outside in glorious sunshine

Not 2 minutes after we left it rained - very heavily, I was down to 40mph trying to see through a wall of water and Stu was behind soaking it all up in just a pair of jeans - I did feel sorry for him.

None the less he's made of stern stuff and we pressed on and the sunshine returned.

At our last joint stop on the M1 before heading in different directions on the M25 his legs had dried off but it did look like he was wearing a darker pair of shorts over the top - damp crotch being a most uncomfortable condition.

So at least the diesel kept running, I suspect any bike with Lucas electrics would have been sidelined.

Yes Dave, the crotch was the only damp bit left by the time I arrived home

I dried out a treat

Opening up my sleeves worked a treat as they dried off by the time I pulled in at Boxhill, Dorking for a break. The sun was going down then and time to button up. That rain must have been hard because the water got pushed back past my gloves and past my elbows

Bigger gaunlets next time methinks.
The bike never missed a beat, thundering on through all that mother nature (and the M25) could throw at her

Glad I chose the M1 over the other road though

Here's a few more shots.....Including one of Graham Clarke, brother of Colin who built my bike. T'was great to meet him for the first time

And Judith who put me onto the bike as well

As you can see we got bored sitting about and opted for a strip down midway through the show after Tom's clutch lost a few ball bearings. He bought some new ones at the show
