Aren't you affraid a gearbox like the ultima will consume too much power for a light diesel?

Brilliant!

Any reason for the wide belt/pulleys? Could you do it with an 8mm set?

your questions

Post by Heiko »

the gearbox runs much lighter than the 4 speed box from enfield.!
and it runs with oil and not with grease.
the teth of the belt is 8mm the broadly is 4cm.
but you can make it smaller too.

You might be able to get a 'hand shift' top, but not a right side shift.. It's a Harley big twin gearbox.

Don't those ultima boxes come in both rhs and lhs flavors? Just one is 100 bucks more expensive? That's what I gathered from browsing ebay.

Is that right side drive you are thinking of? Where the final chain/belt drive comes out the other side of the box? I've never seen one of these admitedly - there is not much in the way of a harley/parts scene over here.

The shifter comes out the left side of a harley gearbox and it's meant to go to a (left side) shifter linkage, which could be adapted (on the frame) to cross over - like the late model Enfield rear brake or somesuch. Not to keen on that.

And, Heiko could probably tear apart the gearbox and fashion a shaft out the right, but...

The right side drives are for the super-wide rear chopper tires. Otherwise, they have to offset the engine in the frame to clear the wide tires. I'm no sure that matters for our purposes. The linkage remains in the stock position.

BTW: Heiko, did you have to grind off the starter mount on your Ultima?

What's great about this is you can use the new unit-motor enfield frame with this gearbox, not to mention other small bikes.

The gearshift is peeking up on the far side of this picture of the RSD:

DOH! I see you've cut the starter plate away on the tiger too - I wondered why it looked such a neat job!

This means that the chain primary I have might not work for my application. The chain case comes right to the back of the starter plate. I guess time will tell when I set everything up on the bench.

I guess getting the engine running would be a higher priority though!

How I'd love to have one in my ole girl :), sixth gear I'm sure is an overdrive which means it would suit the low RPM Diesel much better.

Maybe a project for 09/10, should fit the Yanclone by the pics :) "Interesting"

yes its from vdo.
the signal is W like from an generator from car.
you can buy regulators from hatz or lombardini with that connection.
in back of vdo drehzalmesser is an small screw there you can make it simelar to the real idle.
i hoop it helps you.
