1965 RE Diesel Bullet

Post by pietenpol2002 »

The link below is to an album of pics of a restored 1965 diesel Bullet listed for sale recently on Craigslist. As I recall the asking price was $6500. A bit salty I suppose, but a very nice restoration.

If you're not familiar with Picasa, after selecting the pic, click the magnifying glass in the upper right and then use the cursor to move the picture around.

There are a lot of new REs coming into the US as '60s and '70s 'restorations' to avoid California (and other state) emissions tests.

A very nice original example of the indian conversion, the only part of it that might be from 1965 is perhaps the frame.

Check the number - it will be stamped on the headstock in a font with heavy serif's - should begin G2.... indicating the frame was made in the UK and shipped over in knock down form.

Front wheel and forks are the latest factory items with the disk brake conversion rather than the electra front end that has the removable axle.

The rear hub is the new type too - full width, '65 items have a half width hub and speedo drive.

basically a brand new bike built on a '65 frame - very cool.

The only part missing is the front sheet metal deflector that fits to the front engine mount and stops dirt being thrown at the regulator adjusters.

Cheers
Dave

It is not in the arrival brightly planned. But in the Dreams Men Dream along the way we find the Golden road to Samarkand.

Remember to pull the branch out of the primer cup before tickling.

Filter

If you do buy it I bet the first thing you have to replace is that Fueo filter Not the air filter,
.Mine leajed like a sieve and nothing woyld stop it other than replacing it.
I think Dave had the same problem the spun aluminium keeps spinning.

Just so you know, in the UK you can legally replace the frame too.

The rules are you have to destroy the original.

Wow I wish that would be possible in Holland, I don't think you can legally replace the frame :(

Would be much better, make a strong frame out of modern steel instead of the stuff intended for urinals.
'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up stainless exhaust, check engine rpm and change final drive sprocket.

An ebay store 'export connection' sells these bike swit an india-greaves 10 hp engine. I recently did some tinkering with one of these bikes. the frame number was grinded away and made it to match the engine number.
The electric wiring was a mess...
the engine was sounding very nice, like it wasn't a direct-injection engine ..and started perfectly at temperature around zero.
Maybe due to the newness of the engine, it was quite calm in throttle response.
I guess after running in, an alternative air filter instead of the large iron mesh-and-oil filter might help..
