well you read correctly..lol.. i'm from texas..panhandle to be exact..

i have read quite a bit on diesel motorcycles..this looks to be the place to get started and hopefully get a running bike..

i really like the idea of diesel power, being an old harley rider i have a good grasp of what is involved.. seems to be pretty straight forward.. as always there will be problems i'm sure..lol..

what i would like is a bike that will be able to cruise at a reasonable speed and be dependable enough to be a daily driver.. probably asking to much from a 10 hp single.

my parts and will be here in about a week or so.. donor bike i can go get anytime..

Welcome Toad, you've come to the right place. When you noted having a 650 donor, what flavor are you talking. I've started with a Honda 750 roller and using the 10 hp Yanclone/Comet CVT combo with a small supercharger. It seems that in the process of gathering parts I've accumulated enough now for a second bike which will be one of the titled Honda 550 rollers I have sitting here (somewhat lighter). My son will end up with one of them as we're doing these projects together. So if yours is of the Honda persuasion, I'd be happy to have you join my confusion.

Cheers,
Ron

thanx for the offer.. i am sure we can be confused together..lol..

i really don't have any idea the type of cycle it is.. a friend has 2 or 3 mostly complete bikes..he said i could have my pick.. i guess i need to go pick one up. i said 650 because that what he said.. it could be larger or smaller but i'm pretty sure is a honda..there all rollers.. he used a few parts for the bike he was riding..

since you already have one going, i might ask a question..

what is the total length of the drive train? from the front of the engine to the jack shaft..

this will help when i go to pick the bike..

also if you have any spare parts i might be interested..

Sorry Toad, no idea what that measurement is as I hardtailed and stretched the frame. From the measurements I've taken on the various 550 and 750 frames I can assure you it's not possible to fit the engine and CVT in the available opening, hence the stretch. The engine does however fit quite nicely with very little modifacation. Should yours turn out to be a Yamaha 650 you'll find that even the engine won't fit without liberal use of the blue wrench. If it's a Honda, let me know what you need and I'll see if I have it.

Cheers,
Ron

the weight might be your biggest issue for speed in my opinion. and depending on what cvt and belt you'll use, that will give you CL distances crank/ jack.
