Rally

Post by Cockney Bob »

Having missed the Bat and Ball Rally because I was at the Isle of Man.
It was suggested we could hold another rally later.
I was talking with Diesel Dave today at Battlesbridge. He suggested we should think about using F2 motorcycles place as a convenient central destination.
If you look at the site
http://www.f2motorcycles.ltd.uk/index.html
There are already several meetings we might use to have a meeting at.
How do people feel about a meeting say in August or maybe late this month.
Bob
It is not in the arrival brightly planned. But in the Dreams Men Dream along the way we find the Golden road to Samarkand.

Why not August the 3rd to coincide with their ride out for older slower bikes and a meet with the Vintage motorcycles. It could be the past up against the future of Biking.
They have camping facilities and a showroom of Urals etc to have a look at. Camping is only £3 a night and a pub within staggering distance
So it would have something for every one and even if only a few can attend we would not be alone.
May be that next years Rally would be better there as it is more central and even our german freinds could come off at Harwich and get there quite easily.

It's a bit short notice but I think I can actually make that - maybe just for the Saturday night. I shall watch this space!

It may link with the general discussion on club name we should start thinking of attending other rallies getting some Knowledge out to other people. At Battlesbridge yesterday I had many people who had never even dreamed you could have a diesel bike and lots on interest in how much how fast how far etc they could go.
If we are to become a club it may start small but could grow.

I've not yet booked the Bat & Ball for 2009 but I'll try and put it back a week or two to miss the TT. We have another member who rides Diesel and is a Marshal on the IOM so that'll help him too. The more we can get together at any one time the better I think.
The Hamm event happens when it does because statistically the weather was proven to be good that weekend. I tried to do the same for the B&B event and I think we've not done too bad (I've seen Diesel Dave burnt to a crisp on at least two occassions :D ).
Try and find out why F2 stopped doing Diesel's while your there. Would be interesting to know.

Yes I saw him on the Isle of Man on his beautiful Robin Enfield. It is all Chrome and shiny not like most Diesels .It looks very nice though.
Have you considered not using the Bat and Ball as it is not very central and people north of Watford have to go through or Round London.
The F2 site is more central and he has a cooking place and Toilets etc plus the chance to look at his Bikes

I talked to loads of ppl at the rally about just that but they said the vibe was just getting too good at the Bat & Ball. They all say it's a nice place what with the pub and all. After this years event I must agree. And what with F2 not doing diesel bikes anymore.
We had guys from Scotland, republic of Ireland and Germany on the first rally. It's central from a european perspective. The first German event tried going north but they had very little attendance. Didn't wanna make the same mistake.
I really hope you will make it next year or come to Hamm. We've been doing it for years now and it's a good scene.

I am not going to the TT next year so should make the Bat and ball.
I undestand yor reluctance to move and appreciate you have worked hard to get it up to speed.
I simply thought that for the germans Newcastle or Harwich is closer for them and that lots of our members appear to be Birmingham or West Country only a fw seem to be Southern and south eastern.
Look forward to meeting you all I will however try to fly the Diesel flag at F2 Motorcycle rally just to see if they are freindly.

The crucial thing with crossing from The mainland to the off islands of europe is the cost of ferry or tunnel. It Is much cheaper from dieppe/boulogne/calais or dunkirk. The cost on some of the longer routes can be well over £200 or even near £300 wheres these previous routes can be as low as £40-50 return.

Yes I appreciate that leaving England and travelling to the Island of Europe is a big factor but was thinking that travelling by Diesel is a cost and some of the Bikes would need a nights rest at a hotel instead of a ferry ride the factors are much the same however I look forward to the bat and ball.
Remember fog in the Channel Europe cut off
