The No.2Mk.I is taking Shape!

Post by ejbrush »

I have been making progress on the No.2MkI Motorcycle (Diesel). The photo shows the rough mockup:

The frame began life as a CB360, .120 wall DOM tubing making up a new hardtail frame from the headstock back. Engine is the same 406cc YanClone that powered the No.1Mk.II Motorcycle (Diesel). Transmission is a Burman CP (from an Ariel) that I picked up off E-Bay with the belief it was from a BSA. No big deal, except for finding a clutch assembly to fit.

I ran the engine as manufactured in the No.1; the No.2 is going to dispense with the forced air shrouding and flywheel fins. Theory is that under load, enough air will circulate to keep things cool, and at idle the thing probably won't heat up enough to matter. The engine will live on rubber vibration mounts. That's about where things stand here in Wisconsin.

Hi Ed,

Nice pair of bikes. Lots of folks on here will be interested to know the results of dropping the shroud/finning. Please keep us updated.

Cheers, Mark

Hi, I don't think you want to use this box, it's old 1940's pre 1952 anyway, and the clutch is very rare and not that good as it only has one chain run (simplex) and they stretch.

Take a look at http:\\www.dieselbiker.co.uk and go to gearbox page, this should give you some idea of what to go for, I have just added the re build diagrams for most boxes in case you need to re build one.

Ya know, I came to that same conclusion myself sometime last week. While the archaic Ariel box isn't going to work on the motorcycle, it sure made my drill press a lot more useable.
