So, I've been wrestling with how to get my cvt out of the way. That way I can save space. For now, I have a comet #40 torque converter with the housing and all. My thought was to fasten the whole assembly to the rear of the frame then have a jack shaft for the driven pulley. I could then run a belt from the motor to the jack shaft with minimal modification, using any ratio I see fit.
Does this sound like it would work?
Driving a series 40 clutch.

I think you mean have the "drive" pulley on a jackshaft as well as the driven with the engine turning the jackshaft the drive pulley is on via a belt?
if thats the case, theres no reason it wouldnt work. I had to do this for my build for packaging constraints.

That is what I ment. I'm just worried I could lose too much power.

cogged drive belts are very efficient, I believe they use less power than a chain and sprockets. The belts are fairly cheap and can be bought in any length, the cogged pulleys can be pricey if you get into the bigger sizes but the smaller sizes, say around 4 inch diameter are not bad.

I think you mean toothed not cogged. Cogged refers to V belts that can go round small pulleys.

I don't have much of a choice but to use a v-belt. I'm now wondering if I can put a pulley on top of the drive pulley. I may also need to use a mower deck spindle off an old Massey for the "jack shaft".

I do mean toothed yes, but in Canada "cogged" is commonly used to refer to timing belt style pulleys and belts although technically incorrect.
Paradox1559, the mower deck spindle is a very good idea
