Post by buffalo bill »

OK so the heading is my question.
How are you all cleaning the oil filter seeing as it cant be removed without pulling engine?

I’ve done mine once and you are correct it’s a pain.

It was as clean as a whistle - so that pissed me off.

To be fair I stick to 3000 mile oil changes and the motor doesn’t really operate in terrible conditions (compared to its usual industrial environment.

I shan’t bother again until around the 50,000 mile area.

Dave;
not familiar with the Greaves you have. Must be it's hard to access filter also. Was expecting replies from Yanmar owners as I know they are impossible to remove. Here are some pictures of my solution.

File the end of the filter flat then drill small hole to insert screw with silver soldered thumb screw.
Can't remember size but it self threaded as plastic of filter is semi hard.
Made safety clip from package strapping. Star washer on retaining bolt and ready to test.
To clean park bike on slight incline. Remove retaining bolt, safety clip and center screw.
Pull filter out 1/3 way. Insert long thin spray tube of electrical contact spray cleaner to front of filter
through the center hole. Spray on full and withdraw at same time. Drink a cuppa.
Preoil the O-ring and put her back together.

It’s a Chinese clone, 456cc and supposedly 12hp but they are pretty weedy pit ponies rather than the full Clydesdale hairy hoof type of horses.

I needed the electric foot.

So Dave;
got your message that board was up and running.
Any idea what happened to my pictures such as in this thread?
Yours show fine but mine are squigly!
Bill.

Ah, that’s because mine are hosted on “imgur” rather than the forum itself.

Recovering the photos is always the trickiest part of any recovery.
