I joined here just because you folks are the ONLY people on the globe, I have found, that deal with these engines.
Although I am not using this in a bike application, you are my only knowledgable hope.
I need a constant 2900rpm. I have got this accomplished but I am having trouble with governor response. I need the governor to be a little snappier in response. As it stands now, no-load its a little higher than need be. Full load, its a little lower than need be. I have the springs in 1B at this time, according to the manual. Could you offer me a solution to tighten the rpm band I am experiencing?

Thanks for your help!

Re: 186F diesel
I worked for a company that built diesel generators to military spec, and they required extremely rapid rpm response to load changes. We found that there are very few factory mechanical governors that could meet the spec. The worst of all were the external linkage governors on the air-cooled Yanmars.
We solved the problem by disabling or removing the stock governors, and installing digitally-controlled solenoids or actuators.
My best advice to improve the response of the stock governor would be to disassemble it, carefully remove any burrs or rough edges from manufacturing, and reassemble with graphite dry lubricant at all of the contact points. This should reduce friction and increase response. Otherwise, try to find the governor assembly from an actual YANMAR and not a clone. The dimensions match, and generally the legit ones are much better quality.
