3 Years on - The Tiger Roars once more

Post by Diesel Dave »

After I managed to damage my back a few years ago the diesel Tiger has languished in the garage unused as it's too heavy for me to move about. (Lombardini LDW1003's are heavy motors).

There has always been a large 'dink' in the head bearings that makes the bike a little wandery in a straight line - so I decided to do something about it.

New taper rollers installed and the bars turn as smooth as a baby's bum.

The battery was renewed a few months back so a quick top-up on the Optimate charger and when I couldn't think if any more excuses I primed the fuel lines with the pump lever, hit the glow plugs for 30 seconds and pressed the button.

Voila! - she cooches like a good-un; doesn't even smoke!

Of course it's not charging the battery but that should be simple enough to fix.

Colour me chuffed to bits.

More things to do over the winter such as stronger fork springs and a shorter rear shock absorber and we should be good for the spring.

Just remains to be seen if my back holds out!

Onwards and upwards.

Great news! (the bike, not the back)

Mine is sat in the garden with its new engine bolted in but thats it.

Im hopefully going to get time to sort it over the next few months.

I have yet to see your Tiger Dave.

Hope to see it next year, then again, I'll miss Sluggy. :(

ahhhhhhh. so that answers why you've been sticking with Sluggy. Hope your back heals enough to tackle a Tiger

On mine Curtis in TX and a new friend with massive Machining skills and equipment in Wisconsin are right now chomping at the CAD drawing board before turning out a Stub shaft to get over that hurdle. I shipped the clutch and flywheel from TX to Wisconsin to make sure we are all in synch on what needs to be done.
