Goodmorning everybody,
let me introduce myself, my name is Andy, Plumber, live in Bruges Belgium and 49 years old.
I have a history of 20 years on ships as a mechanic and skipper.
A dieselbike project is what brings me here.
Want to make a chinese 2 cylinder in a Honda CX 500 frame to fit.
Do you think its possible ?
Regards,
A

Welcome to the forum Andy, nothing is impossible, but you have 2 major problems with that combination. 1 space will be an issue the cx500 is a very compact bike and not big in size. 2 like everyone that wants to use a shaft drive with a ready made gearbox final road speed could be an issue as the revs on the cx could be 8000 the Chinese engine will top out at 3600. Hope this helps.

Welkom op het forum Andy!
I've seen a CX 500 with an Kubota D722 in it so I think it should be possible to fit it but the gearing might be a problem.
The cx650 runs about 80km/h at 3600 RPM in top gear. Now you might be able to increase the max RPM to 4000 but that will only give you an extra 15 km/h... And that's flat out.
I also believe the CX500 is sharing its engine oil bath with the transmission.
But if you ditch the manual transmission and go the CVT route its really doable.

Hope it helps!

Thank you both for the fast reply.
I could go for plan B , wich is bying a yamaha diversion 600 and put a hatz diesel(or chinese copy)with 10 or 12 hp in it and use a cvt.
Would this bike a better option for my project?
I would use it on the better weather days as i have to drive every day 200km for work.
Dont want to make it to difficult for my first build.
Grtz,
Andy

Hi Andy.
Welcome to the forum.
I am attempting a CX 500 build with an Aixam Kubota engine (see my posts). A bike has been built before and there is a Youtube video, look for CX500 diesel. Using the original CVT from the Aixam is a no no as there is not enough space in the stock frame. The engine almost touches the front wheel.
There is a company here in the UK, Gemini karts, that have a suitable drive for the build but it costs over £300. The CX engine does not have a gearbox that is able to be used as it is integrated in the engine casings. I have not done much with my build over the last few months.
One thought, if I use the car setup, was to convert the bike into a chopper and rake the frame then add longer forks. It seems that this is not practical for normal road use according to a chopper site I visited. Radical fork extensions are normally for show bikes which usually are not ridden.
I wish you luck with your project and I might be able to glean information from you.
Eddy.

Try getting into contact with alexanderfoti, hes build an XJ 600 diesel. All-tough I believe he used a gearbox from a superdream.
Shouldn't be much of a hassle to replace that with a CVT, right?

I want to be nice here....but between the welding, belt, PC "cooling" fans, welding exhaust flex pipe to cast iron and spider nest of all the same-color wires....that bike is just plain dangerous to be on public roads.Tetronator wrote:His build tread;

Maybe so, maybe not. Not judging on his bike building as I have yet to start building mine. But he might have some pointers which will help out our Belgian Plummer, that's all I'm aiming for here.UAofE wrote:I want to be nice here....but between the welding, belt, PC "cooling" fans, welding exhaust flex pipe to cast iron and spider nest of all the same-color wires....that bike is just plain dangerous to be on public roads.Tetronator wrote:His build tread;
