See "general chat" for details. You can ride this away and take it to the rally this year!
THIS BIKE IS NOW SOLD.
I built the bike from a 1991 Dnepr MT11, which I dismantled, cut the frame in half and replaced the top rail with one that is 17 inches longer, made up a cradle to accept the Petter engine then lined it all up with a laser and welded it together with an industrial welder. Once I had re assembled the frame, I checked the wheel alignment and found it to be straight.
The engine had a former life on a generator, but signs show that it may not been used for many hours. (Engines with a long working life will have worn out the oil seal behind the flywheel. So far, this has not leaked.) I have not undertaken any remedial work on it as it runs very well, though it leaks a little oil from the pushrod seals and some from the timing chest cover. I will try to rectify this latter.
I equipped the engine with a self starter, (new), a variable speed control, handlebar stop lever, new external alternator, new (too) large air filter, heater plug system and home made exhaust. The flywheel was machined to accept the Dnepr clutch so it retains all the original gear change features of the MT11, including semi automatic clutch.
Pictures added show revised tank arrangement.
The outfit has a new MoT, until May 2016.
Despite its appearance, It handles very well and steers straight with no pulling to one side. Brakes are standard Ukranian fare but are surprisingly effective.
The sidecar has "character" rather than comfort and does require some attention to the bodywork in places plus a fresh coat of paint. However, it has been "re-handed" by a previous owner so that the cut out section is on the near side. Some Dnepr chairs have only had the chassis re-handed so the passenger has to climb over a solid side to get in, the cut out section being next to the bike. Full winter equipment, in the shape of a shovel and a fuel can, are attached, though the spare wheel bracket needs to be repaired or replaced. Mounting for a machine gun is fitted, should anyone wish to travel to Ukraine and require some self defence.
Performance is leisurely and regulated. With careful adjustment to the governor, more revs could be made available. I can advise on this.
Full documentation and technical manuals are included.
It has been my daily transport for the last year and I still rely on it.
I am asking £1850 for it. As you will all be aware, this price reflects all the work and research that has gone it to creating it rather than its aesthetics. I regret that I cannot accept low offers or part exchange as I feel that these would not do justice to the machine.
I have a false tank which fits over the top of the engine that requires finishing, with a further layer of fibreglass , filler and paint. This is included.
Other spare parts can be negotiated for.
