New military Hybrid bike
Looks like the US military are moving on from the diesel KLR with this news? But it's billed as a Hybrid multi fuel electric bike..

I am confused is this bike diesel electric if so how big is the engine if it carries a big battery and a diesel engine and only weighs 250 lbs must be a small engine and the 40hp must refer to electric power for a short time. Can anybody shed more light?

Re: New military Hybrid bike
All the info appears to be to have been very missleading. No one has gotten a "contract" to produce the bike. Articles have said though that two companies have gotten a "Grant" to work together and build a diesel hybrid. The actual product has not yet been produced and no company has recieved a gov. "contract" to produce the end product.sbrumby wrote:I am confused is this bike diesel electric if so how big is the engine if it carries a big battery and a diesel engine and only weighs 250 lbs must be a small engine and the 40hp must refer to electric power for a short time. Most All the pictures and video's so far seem to be the full electric only bike sold by BRD or Stealth Electric which has nothing to do with this. Occasionaly the correct picture or video of the base bike already available thru BRD is shown. (see below)
The so called diesel hybrid does not yet exist. It appears the two company's never married are suppose to get together and redesign the Redshift for a diesel powerplant or create a whole new bike that fullfill the military expectations. BRD will supply the bike and Logos Technologies the diesel powerplat for a complete TEST MULE. This mule paid for thru a DARPA grant.

New military Hybrid bike
A couple of links mentioned in the above podcast:
The engine will be a multi fuel type using kerosene & diesel by the sounds of it but maybe just to charge the bikes battery?

Re: New military Hybrid bike
Looks like Harley Davidson might want to get into this hybrid bike thing too. Like the companies mentioned above whom are interested to... the bike version SO FAR are electric only so Harley D is in same Areana. While Harley has not announced any plans yet..... if you look at their new video about their mule electric bike..... it screams to me they want in. they make big deal of their history of rugged innovation, they mention strongly their past military association etc. True they dont come right out and say it.... butttttt...

Re: New military Hybrid bike
BRD and Zero's bikes do look similar. Course hard not too. Physics is physics, steering geometry is steering geomtry, shapes of batteries are rather standard, shapes of electric motors are rather standard so if the design is more function over form .... they're going to look similar.BrotherAnon wrote:The electric part reminds me of Zero bikes
