1955 Matchless Dorsett diesel 412cc. This is a very rare machine as there were only five of these Matchless Dorsett diesel bikes manufactured. The bike has an electric starter and indicators fitted and is in very nice condition covering just over 2000 miles since being built. The bike is powered by an alloy 412cc Robin diesel engine which is smooth running and has enough power to cruise at 50 – 60 mph returning 160 – 170 mpg. The bike has been developed and built to a very high standard and this particular bike was the first one built with an electric starter. Ernie Dorsett built these machines of which was funded by two business partners who’s business was the supply of diesel engines to industry. The two business partners were the brains behind the Royal Enfield Bullet diesel bikes that Ernie Dorsett built which were manufactured after The Matchless Dorsett machines were built.
