Insurance rates

Post by albertaphil »

I have to say that I'm a little bummed out right now. It is costing me twice as much to insure the 16hp "modified" (that's the magic word) 34 year old motorcycle as it did to insure the 8 year old, 100hp sportbike I took my drivers test on.

No company Will touch it, so in with the drunk drivers and young kids. Boo.

Have any of you Canadians found a company that understands our situation?

Seems like the "niche market" is not big enough. Pardon the pun.

That's the main problem these days. If it's not on the computer they are lost.
They don't understand the concept of putting a LOWER powered engine in.
When you mention "modified" all the tick boxes are about more power.
Years ago when insurance was done by dropping in to someone who did specialist insurance for hot rods/chops etc. you could discuss face to face and the broker got a good idea of where you were coming from and passed on the risk assessment to the underwriters.
I know it can still be done on the phone but it's not the same.
Fortunately there are still some brokers around who understand but they take some finding.
I've mentioned it before but if Dieselbike was to become a "club" preferably in name only then discounts might be able to be negotiated(in the UK anyway)??

My experience as well, Carol Nash in the UK used to do it but no more, Adrian Flux used to insure me and they still will, but only under a classic bike policy. My superdream was, but my XJ600 isnt. I currently use a company called Wicked Quotes (Ramasis Ltd), they arent cheap but they do insure.
