Flywheel turning

Post by alexanderfoti »

I have had a spare flywheel lying about and I have just dropped it off at my friend machinist who is going to turn it down for me.

It currently weighs 9KG, I am aming for 4-5KG, so lets see how it fairs when its done.

Just got the flywheel back.

Due to the profile of the flywheel, which is like this if you look at the side:

I wasnt able to take too much off without affecting the structural integriy, as all the weight is held on the rim with a thin connecting peice in the middle.

I was left with this:

It weighs 6.7 KG compared to 9.00kg of the original. I have just fitted it and from brief revs the engine seems quicker to rev, I should have a chance to take it out tomorrow and see how it rides!

As long as it idles OK I should think it improves the ride no end.
Any update?

Had a long ride today.

Broke a gearbox mount weld so im going to beef that up tomorrow.

The engine revs more freely and is a tiny bit faster through the gears. Gear changing however is much nicer as the revs come down quicker when changing gear.

The idle has been completely unaffacted.

More torque due to a faster acceleration?

More like my bad engineering/welding. The mount has broken 4 times in the past.
