Are you still getting the heat problems?? I just wondered if this was due to the wrong rpm range as these are usually set up for petrol(gas) engines?? Maybe the pulley(s) are slipping or not fully closing causing friction which in turn softens/chews up the belts??
This is one of the reasons I chose the aixam cvt as I figured if it could haul along a small car with up to 4 people it could handle me on a bike(no weight jokes

Only thing wrong with this is the size of it as it's certainly not as neat as the comet on a small bike.
I've had mine up to 40mph with no real problems but I want to fit a new belt as I'm using the original worn one and also look at the gearing after I've tried it on the road properly.
I've fitted a fairly restrictive silencer so I might just try the original robin silencer to see if it improves the revs/speed.
I've ordered a v belt pulley so that I can fit the 2cv alternator but as we are in the middle of a public holiday(Queens jubilee) I don't expect to get it until the end of next week.
If you decide to abandon cvt have a look at the villiers gearbox as it sits vertically and just might fit
