Re: Hardley a Davidson diesel Project
Nice one Curtis, my kevlar belt lasted 28 miles (personal best ) do you have the same CVT as me ? If you have I've found another belt manufacturer in the states, not 'rotary', its on my computer somwhere, I'll post it later as I would'nt mind some feedback on them before I bought one .
Good luck with your new bike as well an post all your mods.

Re: Hardley a Davidson diesel Project
Are you still getting the heat problems?? I just wondered if this was due to the wrong rpm range as these are usually set up for petrol(gas) engines?? Maybe the pulley(s) are slipping or not fully closing causing friction which in turn softens/chews up the belts??Dougy wrote:Cheers mate an thanks for thinking of me , I've already used them, they seem like good people, I've been buying up genuine comet belts (I dont think much of the rotary belts they sell ) I've had good results from the Comet one I've got fitted, so I've bought another three.......thats me sorted for the next 30 miles
This is one of the reasons I chose the aixam cvt as I figured if it could haul along a small car with up to 4 people it could handle me on a bike(no weight jokes )
Only thing wrong with this is the size of it as it's certainly not as neat as the comet on a small bike.
I've had mine up to 40mph with no real problems but I want to fit a new belt as I'm using the original worn one and also look at the gearing after I've tried it on the road properly.
I've fitted a fairly restrictive silencer so I might just try the original robin silencer to see if it improves the revs/speed.
I've ordered a v belt pulley so that I can fit the 2cv alternator but as we are in the middle of a public holiday(Queens jubilee) I don't expect to get it until the end of next week.
If you decide to abandon cvt have a look at the villiers gearbox as it sits vertically and just might fit

Re: Hardley a Davidson diesel Project
I finally sussed how to stop breaking the belts, I put a oilite bearing on the front pully, now when she's ticking over the belt stops an does'nt rub on the shaft, the oilite bush takes the stick instead !
Its a bit naff but I made this vid for Freya to take to school and show HER bike .

Re: Hardley a Davidson diesel Project
Love the video, and glad you got the CVT issues sorted! I seem to have an issue with my drive chain rubbing on the primary cover bad times.
Re: Hardley a Davidson diesel Project
You've created a jewel out of a pile of rubbish, very nicely done!
As long as it smokes, it runs!
Re: Hardley a Davidson diesel Project
Congratulations on building by and far away one of the most fuel efficient Harley's ever built.
Not only are you great at picking up the skills to make this (as I see you have learned a few!) but you are a great Dad. Little Freya is one lucky girl to have a great father to risk life and fingers for such an amazing gift!

Upon review of your pictures, it appears fingers have already been risked and so thank you for risking them again!

Nah Curtis, it's only Texas that censors that kind of stuff. We can get here in the other states. Probably considered a bit to "racy" for the average Texan.
