Let me first tell you I have been reading for about a month. I have been ridding motorcycles for a number of years.
My first build is going to be a converted Royal Enfield. I just puchased a engine on e-bay. Hope no one else was bidding on the same engine.
The engine I bought should work very well for a first timer. Its a Ruggerini 1 cylinder rated at 9.5 HP @ 3,600rpm. Just in case I asked them if they had additional engines and they said yes so I bought a spare.
I do not know how many they have but the nice people at 12th congretional equipment company can help you in the event that you are looking. They sold me my engine for $675.00 plus shipping. There phone number is 724-459-8575 they are in Blairsville, PA. Ask for Tammy real nice lady.

I know the bike will not be a rocket ship but I plan to use it to commute from home to work daily in spring and summer a 5 mile drive each way.
I am now on the hunt for a good doner Royal Enfield shouldnt be hard to find as there are several on e-bay from time to time.

does anyone have any model info on this Ruggerini you all are speaking of? i would very much like to know if its direct injection and how much it weighs, because ill drive there and get one if it compares to a hatz.... 1b30/40

if so im getting 56kg dry, cant seem to find any info on if its direct or not...
i called and spoke with ralph, whome tammy put me opn the phone with, who indicated they ARE in fact the rf-121 motors, he is getting back to me tonight or tomorrow with an exact number of how many are left. he said they are new, and were bought from the government. he confirmed the price and was a nice guy.

I don't see the model you are speaking about, but if I had to guess I would say its a RY 103 air cooled and yes that is direct injected which is very similar to the YANMAR's. These enines are a RF-121 used in a generator application not as a stand allone. The bellhousing and flywheel can be removed and you can make an adaptor and new gear to bolt on.
The engines have a shut off and throttle linkage. I got both of my engines 1-29-2008 and they are new in the origanal box.
They have a rather large oil pan and hold a good amount of oil. The oil system is pressured and has a small metal screen filter at the front that can be removed and cleaned.
I have also noticed if needed there is a glow plug on top by the compresion release lever. Should make it nice for colder enviroments.
They are direct injection and come with a force fed fuel pump and filter with return line.
The weight listed on the box said 123# but I am not sure thats right as I figured I could lift that from the back of my truck.. NO WAY!! maybe I am just getting old..

Not that its a huge down fall but the charging system and starter are 24Volt. Looks like I will have two small motorcycle batteries to run this thing.

I plan to use the power off one battery for the 12 Volt system blinkers lights and horn exxxx..

Intake will be at rear and exhaust up front just like a gas engine in most bikes.
