The Big Knock 2014
I've just booked us in at the Bat & Ball for 30th May thru 1st June.
Over the year It's been increasingly obvious that many favour a return to our spiritual home, especially for the 10th anniversary bash, so I've made it so.
I'll also be trying to broaden the appeal of this event, one of the U.K.'s leading alternative motorcycle rallys, by inviting electric motorcycles and any other alternative bikers I can think of along. Nothing like a little competition to concentrate minds & ultimately improve MPG or Miles Per Charge
I've got Camping fees for single bikers with small tents back down to a reasonal level too.
See you there!

Would love to join you all for The Big Knock 2014. I had the privilege of running wild in the fields around Bisley when I was a squirt and the countryside around there is truly awesome. Hope you have a great time. Will look forward to reading more.

Re: The Big Knock 2014
Springbok have been most gracious since I've informed them that the majority prefered a return to the Bat & Ball. I hope to get the page up in the new year with added invitation for electric machines. There's only one local dealer so hoping he might encourage some customers to venture to our humble gathering

You'd be most welcome
The £ is not supporting the Greek economy like the € so I think we'll stick with it for some time yet

Re: The Big Knock 2014
I've just had it confirmed that the camping costs are to be around £5.50 as publicised on our rally page and that there will be an electrical hook up & charge point for any Electric motorcycles that come along. As yet no companies have taken up my offer of a place in the field.

Re: The Big Knock 2014
Facebook page is up for the event now and I'm looking at T shirt design. Our usual artist hasn't got back to me so having to wing it a bit at the moment Hoping to put together a design suggested by my brother. Coming together slowly.

Great! Is it too early to book now? I'm sure I will forget until it's too late.

Re: The Big Knock 2014
Swung by the Bat & Ball today to make sure we have a power point to A: charge any electric motorcycles up should they come and B: so the kids can have an endless supply of hot water to make tea for visitors.
Because of the power points being in the Middle field, that is where we will be this year!

Well old Sluggy passed his MOT test today so I won't have to suffer the ignominy of turning up in the van or a petrol bike.

Good stuff Dave. I'm still mired down with T shirt design but things are moving albeit slowly.

Re: The Big Knock 2014
Getting everything sorted. Any chance I can use the electric hookup to charge a battery pack I built for camping?
I could leave the 200 watts worth of solar panels at home!

Sadly since my back injury I find it impossible to manage the Tiger - its a rather weighty beast.
Must get around to selling the beastie soon.

They are big bikes. Mine is best suited to straight line touring and not the local stuff where it barely gets warm.

Dave sorry to hear about that. Hope the recovery is going well.
And yes the tigers are heavy to start with before we start adding big gearboxes and the like!

Re: The Big Knock 2014
I've had Caterham get back saying their electric bikes are still in development so won't make it. A dealer tells me Zero have pulled out from the UK so they are also not coming.
With no confirmed electric machines I may try & get a dealer to display some 'diesel like' commuter machines such as the Honda NC. Anything to add variety for our tenth bash.
T shirts still aren't happening but I've gotten help from Stateside presently so fingers crossed.
Also a farm shop has appeared at the Bat & Ball Handy for breakfast supplies methinks.

Re: The Big Knock 2014
Oh that farm shop looks good! Good breakfast here I come.
its a shame about the electric bikes, A lot of them appear briefly then die off. Mainly becuase of £8000 min price and <100 miles range.
They need to create a small diesel engine and a generator with a small (ish) lipo battery and an electric rear hub motor. That would be excellent and would use 0 power when sitting in traffic.

Re: The Big Knock 2014
As I only have a lot of Robin Diesel Enfield bits ready to start my first conversion, can I attend on my petrol BMW GS 650 Dakar motorbike?
Or possibly bring my Caterham 7
I would love to look at some finished bikes and meet some of you.
I'm assumimg I just turn up and don't have to book.

I would love a look at that Caterham! Always wanted one of those, might be a bit bumpy getting onto the field thoughbrucey wrote:As I only have a lot of Robin Diesel Enfield bits ready to start my first conversion, can I attend on my petrol BMW?

Re: The Big Knock 2014
Yes Brucey, by all means bring the Caterham.
I'm not sure we'll all fit in the middle field now as numbers are stacking up, at least on the Facebook publicity side. About 85 at last look. A mixture of interested ppl from all walks by the looks of things

Re: The Big Knock 2014
Thanks.
I think I'm out doing brake tests on high speed trains on the Thursday and Friday for work but hope to come on Saturday and Sunday.
At 55, I still love camping (unlike my wife). So I'm really looking forward to it
