Cutting your fuel pipe

I may need to cut my fuel pipe to fit a shut off solenoid, has anyone done it ? I've got the 300cc Yanmar.

don't think putting a stop solenoid in your fuel pipe will be any good as the engine will still run until the the excess fuel is used up??
This won't fit your engine but it's the sort of thing you need!

You might have just hit the nail on the head there mate, looking at the pics side by side they look the same except for the electric bit on the side, I'll ring them up tomorrow an see what they say, I've never fitted one but can't imagine it being hard ?

Could this be fitted directly to the injection pump? If so, it would certainly save you a few shekels.

Mmmm its an idea mate,I can't get a fuel pump with a electric solanoid for the L70 engine like mine, I've rang two firms over it now to see if the other engines they make like the L90 or L100 with the cut off valve will fit mine, one said it might fit but the solanoid is just under £200 and the pump is £300 + vat ( genuine Yanmar) and one is ringing me back tomorrow with what I think are copy's both bits cost a total of under £70 !

You also need a non-return valve in the spill pipe or it will use this as a fuel feed and keep running.

as close to the pump on the fuel tank feed and fitted a one way fuel valve like diesel Dave suggested, do you think it would turn off straight away or run on for ages ?

Only one way to find out.......

I suspect it will run for a few beats, depends how effective the solenoid is and how much the jerk pump is capable of sucking fuel through a closed hydraulic system (liquids being non-compressable.

Where the solenoid is directly connected to the pump, when not energised the plunger will press directly down against the fuel port where the pump sucks against - effectively shutting it harder. Where you fit it inline the solenoid plunger will be at 90 degrees to the flow.

And then be sure to carry a screw driver for that inevitable day that the battery gives out 3 miles from home, so that you can unscrew the clamps and bypass the solenoid valve.

Naa I got a good one mate, its got a manual override lever which allows the fuel to still flow in the event of a power failure.

another option sorta. New of a fellow who installed an RV sewage shut off valve in his air intake. He put it there to starve the engine of air in case a run away situation ever occurred.

It would make a good anti theft device lol. Shut off the air and the theif can't start it.
