US connect in problems

Talk about anything unrelated to Diesel Motorcycles - hard as that may be..

US connect in problems

Post by coachgeo »

hmmmmm.... not sure how or why but I am now completely blocked from the board. I can get to suckindiesel.com bike pages via a google search and once in move around most everywhere thru the site BUT the forum. I can NOT go directly to any place in the website by a cut and paste or typed in URL.

I am here now only cause Im using a Proxy (ananonymouse). This issue started now almost 48hrs ago.

This not reaching the forum is when using IE8 AND when using Opera. both time out when using the typed in or cut and paste url to the front page of the website AND same for url for the forum. IE8 Times out almost immediately, Opera after approx. two minutes of attempting to connect.

Not sure it is relevant or not.... but I often get pages that time out when I move from a page within a site to another.... I have to refresh to get them to show up. But none have become unreachable like here.

I have also deleted all cookies etc. resulting in no change

Apologies for the rather formal reply on FB regarding this but didn't expect you to go that route at all :-)
Go thru Neil or me directly via email for Technical forum probs if you can't get connected here. Sounds like the problem is your end though?

No problemo on formality.

I did email using the address I get sent registration request from. Can you PM me your email addresses for any other future thing. when not able to reach the site..... I've no way to contact anyone.

Any suggestion on what to look for on my end. Unfortunately Im on "WITH PERMISSION" neighbor's office router sooooo I have no control over that. I get suspiscion though its not that... though it may be his ISP?

Neil is away at the moment so you're on your own Coach. Hopefully it will right itself.

Have been using a proxy server since the first message. Not sure why but now all the sudden connection is working normal again.

A version of Murphy's Law, apparently. When ever something fixes itself, it will do so in the most confusing and non-sensical manner possible.

Since 'upgrading' [HAH!] to IE8 I have strange issues on many websites but not here in particular. One thing for sure here, you MUST have cookies enabled in order to post or have full access here. Going to try to PM you my email address, hope I'm able and that you can receive it. That way you could always email me as a go-between to the forum just in case.

Something else too, when I do have problems on sites like a phony 404 Error that I cannot connect, it often self-repairs if I click refresh once or twice, so it's just IE8 glitches. Lousy program, not half as good as good old IE6! But, don't even get me started about MicroShaft....

Something's wrong! I wrote a reply after last reply shown and it seemed to post. Now it's gone. Below is that missing reply:

Something real weird is going on for sure Coach! I clicked on your name, got to User Profile, clicked to send a PM. Page transition took me to, 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' [one of the errors it commonly throws up, as in vomits from its rotten stinkin M/S guts] so I clicked again, same thing. Third try it blew me clear off the internet and blew out my dialup connection! Going to try again just because M/Shaft pissed me off! YET AGAIN!

Wait, let me tell you all about MicroShaft...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
That is the missing reply. After reconnectiing when I tried to post again I got blown off the net again after the same M/S error message displayed and it blew my dialup again. I defragged using Iobit360 Smart Defrag, rebooted and trying it all again now. Real strange stuff allright....

Received, thanks!

As to the rest, well, it was written in another place, "..we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers..." and it seems that all make their choices there, and some choices are VERY obvious. I think if you rearrange the letters in Micro-Soft it spells Beelzebub in ancient Greek, or was that Sanskrit....

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program....

I gave up using mickysoft craporation products years ago. been on Ubuntu 3-4 years, never had a system halt or other kind of glitch. Only snag I ever encountered was in the early days printer drivers were scarce, but now Epson among others are directly linked so if you plug in a new printer it knows to go to the epson site and downloads and installs automatically.

It is free and so are all the associated programs.. I use firefox as browser and evolution for mail.

It is an order of magnitude faster than windoze.

Post us a copy of the error page. That way we can present it to the company hosting us and try and find out what's happening. We're getting most of our visitors from the US. Figures were only slightly down yesterday & still within our normal range so it may be impacting us for periods.

We're trying to get numbers up at the moment by tidying up the website so occasionally a page might change before your eyes :-). I've added a temporary menu with new index pages & we'll have a new front page soon. Navigation is everything & that will improve things for first timers here.

Yep, I've been blocked out for a couple of days, real similar to what Coach described. Either from email reply links or trying to access from my saved Favorites link or even trying to break in the back door through search links: FORBIDDEN! YOU DO NOT HAVE THE REQUIRED PERMISSIONS blah blah and another message aboust a '500 script error' that seemed to described an error on the forum.

All back to normal today, thanks for the wrench & hammer work!

Problem above as you can tell has been fixed. Neil not sure what that one was.... it was weired and keeped everyone off the board it appears.

thennn there is yesturday. Same problems that prompted this thread. I get 404 errors. This time mulutiple computers and different networks said there was no such thing as suckingdiesel dot com. Same issue for any suckindiesel links from google or dieselbike dot net.

A message has been sent to Neil.

Hi guys,

I am not seeing any issues that would throw up a 404 message. Only thing I can think of is perhaps it happens at some time of night (UK) when we are all cozy in bed and the members in the US are on here.

The 500 error was indeed a weird one. I figured out the issue but not why it happened. Keeping an eye out. I don't *think* the 2 things are related...

Website hit hard yesterday as our hosting platform was hammered in some form of DDOS attack. Ok now it seems. This is seperate from forum host though remember.

just for your reference. Had same issue last not. Site could not be found. On a new computer now, New OS (Linux Fedora) and new modem. Same network and ISP though. Had this new set up a few months now. It was around 1:30am my time.
