Re: Thought this interesting - Refining diesel
Back in the 80's during yet another 'Energy Crisis' a California college, U.C. Davis, had an 'Earth Day' event on campus. All the greenies were there in their tie dyes and beads trying to save the whales from 100 miles away.
A college Engineering Dept. professor had an exhibit. He showed up with a small car, a barrel of crude petroleum, and some kit. Right there in front of the world he assembled his kit in an open grassy field and built a petroleum cracking column. He then proceeded to fire it up, heat the raw petroleum crude oil, crack it into essences, siphon off a column vent, and pour that freshly made fuel into his little car.
He then drove it around the campus for all to see! He proved beyond argument just exactly how difficult and complicated it really is to crack petroleum and pull fuels. At the refinery picture at linked page most of what's seen is equipment for cracking & processing many other chemicals and volatile esthers, and their transportation, handling, storage, plus countless environmental protection devices, safety & fire suppression equipment etc. All it really takes is one little old cracking column plus transportation and storage equip. for fuel derivatives.
These various fuel shortages are simply validation for inflated prices. This is necessary thanks to environmental regulations strangling the industry, driving up the cost of production of all petro derivatives.
It so happens that the USA currently sits on top of more proven petroleum reserves than all of the middle east, and all of the offshores, and for a fact has more proven petroleum reserves sitting here than all of the other nations of the world COMBINED! However it's currently illegal to drill or extract. MUST import from other nations like China, Russia, Venezuela etc. and ship it across the ocean in super tankers. What a fraud...
