Home at last. The bike ran like a dream down the motorways to Dunkirk, where I was told a ticket to Dover was £130 as it was Sunday. Weekdays £35.
I did the obvious thing and went to Calais, found a campsite and jumped into some local bars. :D

Monday morning, and I had over slept a little; I booked the 1.30 ferry and had to wait a couple of hours. Time passed fast as there were quite a few people who were interested in the bike.
At Dover I realized that it would start getting dark by the time I hit Bristol (M4-M5), so it was full throttle until the tan ran almost dry at 130 miles at a time.
I had to switch on the dodgy lights just before Exeter, I got a few flashes from passing motorists but the traffic was light. The M5 ran out past Exeter where unlit duel carriageway took over, still 60 miles from home it was pitch black so I left the duel carriageway with the intention to go over Dartmoor. I figured that falling in to a ditch would be less painful than getting hit by a lorry. As luck would have it I found my old florescent torch in my tank bag, so I strapped it to handlebars, and got back on the duel carriageway. It was crap compared to modern bike lights, but it did the trick, kind of like bad 1950's lights. I ended up following close behind a well-lit lorry the rest of the way home.

I'd like to thank everyone who helped me with my dodgy electrics, and to all who made the event an enjoyable one. :D
Now the work begins again :lol:

Glad to head your home safe.

If you can get a proper multi-meter try for a reading from the alternator cables at the rectifier, your should see some resistance, if it's a dead short or open circuit, then it's likely the windings are faulty. Anything else will be either the reg/rec failing.

For those who have yet to attend either a German or UK rally, I do not think photos can do anything like full justice to these meets. The people who take part in these rallies are just as much a part of the event as the bikes - and you'd be hard pushed to find a more welcoming group. Thanks to Rafael for organising a top weekend.

Hi All,

Just arrived home safely on Sunday 16th after a detour to visit friends post rally.

What a great weekend! The weather really helped a lot but as ever, a fun bunch of people and machines in a field, with access to schnitzel and beer is a winning formula.... looking forward to next years rallys.

For those I bored with tales of my North Cape adventures, the final results are in.

I covered 6935 miles (11161km) visiting nine countries. I refuelled 27 times using 230.08 litres, giving an overall figure of 137.02mpg (Imperial) (2.06lt/100km)

I didn't go fast, but I did go far and I had a great time doing it........ Ian AKA Tim? Sommer 462 (2011 model)

Radar detectors, Global Positioning System receivers, heated grips, and satellite radios are some of those farkles. @Stuart: Thanx for the Hamn description, especially about trends going on in the dieselbike scene.

The Tiger Smart CDI seems to do the same amasing 115 mpg as the Sommer diesel !

Did you got the CDI control unit reprogrammed :?: ...

and how many mph or kmh does the Tiger go per 1000 rpm in highest gear :?:

I've no rev counter pick up & CrazymanNeil got the ECU for it. The Sommer is a nice bike but the Tiger is in a different league.
May move this later as its a bit 'off topic'.
