Ferry is booked

I'm on the Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry on evening of Thursday 6th. This place http://www.thegallerybrummen.nl/en_EN/welkom.html is just off the motorway and I plan to stop off for an hour to lust after stuff I can't afford and have a coffee before heading on to Hamm.

Will be returning (at the moment, I'm on a flexible ticket) on the daytime/2:30pm ferry on Sunday.

Sean, Dave - let me know if you're heading out on the same ferry as it'd be good to hook up...

Ok that's prompted me into action and the Ferry's booked same as yours Dan.

Severe wallet damage but saves the days of work though.

For now it looks like i'll be able to make it to Hamm. No work for me during a long weekend @ that time. Perfect.

It's in my backyard basically. :)

Ok boys,
The plan is coming together. My tent, sleeping bag, and LuxuryLite cot are on their way here from the States. I'll strap that bit of kit to my trusty, albiet petrol powered, K75S and join you all at Hamm! I also plan to flesh out the kit with a weekend on the Isle of Man, and a trip from Lands End to John O'Grotes. :D

Hopefully I shall be able to atend this year, I am planning on coming with 2 others who are then off on a trip round Europe.

Plans are not yet made, but looks like a trip to Folkstone, under the channel , then the long motorway to Hamm.

It's looking like there'll be a good turnout from the UK contingent this year - will be great to catch up with everyone in Hamm.

I booked my time off work for Hamm earlier today - a week either side of it - so we will have a leisurely ride back. But I've still not booked the ferry! We are aiming to be at Newhaven the catch the 7 or 8 am boat. In recent years we have found that it leaves an hour later than it previously did. Anyone is welcome to join us on the ride there.

Hoping my wheels will be sorted before the off! Need new rims. I've been sorting some stuff out including a £1 bike cover (not shown) a £1 lantern (pound shop again) powered milk & some coffee bags from Lyons (only seen them in Tesco) - I've long since given up on the portable expresso thing!

How do you end up in Germany on a diesel Enfield without dying? I would like to avoid Freihe Fahrt, but not spend the entire route on 50 kph roads with traffic signs. I don't mind highways, but the road I took last time contained both Freihe Fahrt and quite a number of hills. Apparently Google can't plan a route without it. Or you have to avoid highways altogether.

It was hell travelling to Hamm on the old Charnwood Hatz - slowly losing speed on the long inclines - especially when the truckers saw my English plate :-)
Was nice to ride the Ruggerfield twin after that. The only problem I have now is that the Tiger is so good it performs my brothers XL600 & I have to hang back waiting for him. The vibration on the XL is such that it can't cruise at higher speeds as I can. But I can't complain - he waited for me on all previous trips to Hamm & now it's my turn to look over my shoulder at the petrol bike. Diesel bikes have come on a long way since the early days ;-)

On the other hand, following you on the charnwood bike pushed the Mpg on my BMW up to 57+ :)

I have had no problems in Germany (UK, France, Italy, Czech republic Austria or Poland) on My Electra bumbling along at about 55Mph (90 Kph)

Take your mirrors off and the run is easy on an Enfield  (apart from white finger from vibration anyway).

The Tiger is sporting a nice new exhaust so I've managed to ditch the heavy cans, and a mainstand too.

Not long now!

Right...

There's a few heading over on the Harwich to Hook of Holland ferry. As far as I can tell from various posts we have:

Thursday morning - Sean

Thursday overnight - Dave, Willy and myself

Is that still right?

It looks like it will have to be a rather rapid trip up the A12 for me after work so I might have to accept the wallet damage and eat on board the boat.

Stuff the expense then, gimme the biggest steak they have on board. :P

We'll be having breakfast onboard I guess - I'm just hoping they issue the kitchen with these trays below after the rather choppy crossing we had last time!
Must book our tickets. Kinda holding off because both bikes are away being MoT'd. XL is back day before we go!

Could have easily been a Dutch invention, seeing how now you have an excuse to put less soup and drink in the container.

Aw that's too bad matey, start saving those pennies for next year then.

I have been fettling the Tiger in preparation, it's new centre stand lifts the back wheel about a foot off the floor as the bike is lowered, I think it needs someone the size of Big Willy to heft the bloomin thing onto the stand - jeez.

Next time I'm opting for a Harley Low rider chassis with an under seat tank, flippin thing is way to heavy for my feeble stature.

Still at least I can wheel it around easily now, has new disks and stainless pistons in the callipers :D

Snazzy new exhaust too.
