Rewound Stator

Hi all

Just a quick one to say that my re-wound stator is working correctly when I paired it with the correct magnet bit that goes on the flywheel.

Im well happy about that, I now start charging at 1000rpm at .5A and then as soon as I get above 1200 rpm it goes up to around 2amps, then steadily increasing until its around 8amps or so, so not 15 but good enough.

Still have an odd issue with my regulator, everything checked etc grounds, re-wired everything but as soon as I reconnect the sense wire, It stops charging, I have noticed that above 1200rpm, it stops charging (ie when the stator ouput is more than 14 volts or so).

I have no idea why this is especially as I have checked all wires, grounds etc, the only thing I can think of is that the regulator is faulty., any thoughts?

Thats a feature,not a bug !
Maximum charging Voltage for a lead battery is abt 14 Volt.
The regulator stops charging as soon as this value is reached

Sorry that stator ouput is 14 volts, but the 12v side of the system is no more than 12.5 when it cuts the output.

I have just double checked.

Without the sense wire connected, at 3800rpm I have 17 volts!

with the sense wire connected, I only see 12.2 volts, and it barely (if any) charges.


So I have a choice of overcharging, or not charging at all :p

What happens when you fool the sense wire and put two silicondiodes in serie with it.
Depending on the current there will be a ~ 0.8 V voltage drop across each diode,and the regulator will compensate with 2 X 0,8 V.

It behaves the same as if its connected without the diodes

I have just tried the regulator from the yanmar rather than the honda one and its working now hovering around 14.5v, looks like the honda reg died oh well. Thanks for everyboyds help!

14,5 V is fine! keep that one
