Other stators
Hi all
I have attempted to rewind my stator, but after 3 turns on each pole of a 15 amp yanmar, I only managed to get 5 volts at 3000rpm, im sure my crappy winding has failed somehwere,
So I have 2 options .
1) pay somebody LOTS of money to rewind if for me.
2) figure out another motorbike stator that fits the yanmar.
So any ideas?

Re: Other stators
I have got the same experience as you ! My Yanmar L100 had the 1A dynamo version, and then I bought a chinese "15 A" dynamo assembly, I did the rewinding of the stator. But after a while my rewinded chinese stator with chinese magnet wheel gave approx. 10 V AC at 3000 rpm. It should output at least 30 V AC unloaded at 3000 rpm.
Yanmar has produced at least 3 different versions of "Dynamo assy" ( stator and magnetwheel in pairs ), 1A, 3A and 15A . I found an original NOS 1992 "Dynamo assy" 12V / 15A Yanmar sparepart no. 114351-78290.
Finally, with the original Yanmar "Dynamo assy"-114351-78290 and the Yamaha XTZ 600, 34L regulator I am using, it starts charging the battery at 1500 rpm with all lights on.

Re: Other stators
Aha, that might explain why, as I didn't get a different set of magnets with my 15amp stator!
Thats pretty good, as mine stops the battery discharging at 3000rpm with the 3amp stator with the lights on.
I was thinking of putting a chainwheel on a suzuki gsx alternator and mounting that somwhere in my primary, any thoughts on that?

Re: Other stators
No, it is a chinese dynamo assembly, the stator wire is too thin to provide 15A !.
I got the original Yanmar from the danish Yanmar import.

Re: Other stators
There's this interesting application of a Vulcan stator in the thread below (down the page a bit). But, since he's not using the original flywheel I don't know that it could be snuggled in under a stock flywheel. Still, I've wondered too whether there wouldn't be a stator assembly from another bike that could be adapted.

Hmm I see what you mean, I wonder if we can find the measurements for the vulcan one, I should be able to figure out if it will fit or not.
