Hello from Chicagoland and Cheltenham UK!
Hello Guys!
Met some of you at the Big Knock, great group of guys. I'm terrible with names so if you could take a minute and let me know who you are it would be great. On my Facebook post the only guys name I could remember was Neil. The guys from Germany and the Netherlands I cannot put a name to the face. So help me fill in the blanks! Normally I hail from Rockford IL, but I'm in the UK on a work assignment for the next few months. Most of my travel blogs have been appearing on my Facebook page, so thats the best way to keep tabs on me if you feel so inclined http://www.facebook.com/william.ruehl.5. I do have a web site but it has been neglected for some time its here: http://projectoldwing.com/

If time off work is a problem Willy, then you could always join us on the expensive overnight ferry Thurs night returning Sunday night in time for work on Monday morning.
Only 200 miles from the ferry to the campsite, 3-4 hours depending on traffic and stops.

Re: Hello from Chicagoland and Cheltenham UK!
If you have to ask...........
It's a tad over 200 quid including food and cabin fees but this does save me the cost of 2 overnight stops elsewhere.
You do have a 200 mile trek from Cheltenham to Harwich but the ferry departs 11pm.

Round trip or each way? Round trip doesn't sound too bad. One way is a bit painful...Diesel Dave wrote:If you have to ask...........

I know i won't be on that ferry but how about i join you guys on the ride from the ferry to the campsite and back?
I'll just need the details of when you're arriving in Corner of Hollowland?

Re: Hello from Chicagoland and Cheltenham UK!
Blimey - I think we're going for a record for the Thursday night ferry this year! Look forward to a beer with you guys on the way out...
Edit (in response to Bert's note which you posted almost at the same time as this)... the ferry timetable says we'll be there 7:45am your time (though the last time I went in 2010 I seem to recall being off the boat at 7am). I also plan to stop off at the Gallery in Brummen (http://www.thegallerybrummen.nl/) as it's on the way though appreciate that might not be for everyone.

Re: Hello from Chicagoland and Cheltenham UK!
First road after disembarking and setting foot on the mainland? Shouldn't be a problem for me.
Re: Hello from Chicagoland and Cheltenham UK!
I just wanna let you know that I made a very cheap and easy booking for the Dover-Dunkerque Ferry this year.
1. DFDS/Norfolkline accepts PayPal now! Very easy (for me)!
2. cheapest ship I've ever booked - 35,50 Euro for BOTH travels
3. a boat every two hours. never had a problem to took one boat earlier or later
Dunkerque - Hamm is 455km mostly boring motorways, to be true.
Can be booked here: http://www.norfolkline.com/ferry/

Bert, Dave...
Why don't we meet at the ferry terminal itself? We can all meet up at the fried fish shop at the edge of the terminal car park which should be very easy to find for Bert and we literally fall out of the ferry onto it. It even has parking spaces outside the front of it!

Sounds good, I've spent quite a few hours in there waiting for the ferry (nervous return trips on the Enfield with a 45mph top speed).
Don't worry, I'll be on the Tiger or something faster than Sluggy's current power plant.
Now where did I put that tiny turbo?

Re: Hello from Chicagoland and Cheltenham UK!
One of us could bring a bit of rope and tow Monseiur Norfolk along at a bit more of a decent speed?

I find it a lot easier (from the advantage of Tiger seating height) to place a size 9 in the middle of his back and push.

It's clear you guys are doing this to drive the rest of us stark raving mad with envy.
BTW Willie - welcome to the board and while at Hamm, raise one for the rest of us marooned back here in the colonies. For the record, I grew up west of Pecatonica. I could see the lights of Rockford as a child.

Has anyone told you guys yet that on many highways in the Netherlands you can now officially go 130km/hr instead of 120km/hr? Just saying!

I'm sure that's a pretty bleak picture, uphill, on one of Germany's finest "Freihe Fahrt Strecke"...Diesel Dave wrote:Sounds good, I've spent quite a few hours in there waiting for the ferry (nervous return trips on the Enfield with a 45mph top speed).
