Hi all

I recently fitted a15 amp stator to my 186 diesel that's connects to a Honda superdream regulator.since fitting it I have no charging at all, so I put the old stator back on and still no charging. Have I managed to blow my regulator up?

Hi,

The chinese 186F stators might output 15 Amps BUT at a voltage too low to charge a 12 V battery.

I have rewind my stator and used a XT 600Z regulator for 2 phases from mid 1980s.

I'd thoroughly check all grounds, Alexander, no paint, no rust. Also check wire ends & connectors. Sometimes a wire looks fine but back under the insulation it's all covered with green corrosion. Or you may sometimes find what looks like a good connector crimp to a wire is actually only held by a few strands.

Aha! Sorry I get what you mean, the 15amp stator does not have enough windings to charge the battery!

And XLerate you where right, a crappy ground from the regulator, a wiggle and its all charging again.

So I guess I need to re-wind the stator with more windings for more voltage.

Over the years I've found that well over 1/2 of electrical problems are due to faulty grounds, regardless of what component appears to be the problem.
