Age of donor machine

Post by tonyc »

This is my first post as I am just a beginner! I need to know what age of donor bike to get. I had heard that it has to be built before 1980 to get round emissions and noise legislation. Is this correct?

 Welcome to the world of diesel bikes. This forum is full of useful information from a wide variety of people from around the world. I would suggest you have a good look round the forum before making any decisions on which bike to buy or engine to use. I personally use what I know, which is the smaller cylinder diesel engines. Also on this forum you can see that you can build what you want. There are NO rules in the diesel bike world. Good luck with your build and keep in touch with stuff on the facebook page and the forum, but most importantly - COME TO THE BIG KNOCK. I did last year and it helped me make the decision which frame to use, which engine to use and which final drive to use i.e. gear box or CvT. I've chosen Cvt. They are a great bunch of people. A very relaxed 3 days of diesel bike madness. Good luck.

Welcome Tony!

This is actually an international forum so your question is sort of like, "How warm will it be today?" Well, that depends on where you're at. To get your answer on emissions it all depends on what nation & area you're in and what the local laws are.

Many areas allow an exemption from emissions regulations if you use a diesel engine, depends on where you live...
