All the best there Andrew. I've been following Harry via Twitter (@Harryls) and he's not found the Chinese engine to be too reliable. Hope yours lasts better than his!

Yes all the best with it Andrew, hope you have an excellent adventure mate, the fuel economy will see you able to go long stretches without worrying about running out of fuel, and if set up right should be reliable as any production bike out there.

I have not had a chance to see your web link, but will endeavour to have a look tonight.

A ;)

I've had no problem with my engine other than it starting backwards when new and the flywheel key drift snapping. All other problems have been down to my shoddy engineering techniques, all righted after a year. I'm running a 19T front (18" rear wheel) which should keep the engine from being at its RPM limit for long periods of time.

I'm not on twitter but will have to check out what problems he had, do you have a quick list?

Cheers, Andy

Is there a way to search? I can't find anything definitive other than it's a 418cc engine (and these do seem less reliable than the 406cc)

Sounds like an excellent adventure. Tried to subscribe to your RSS feed (of everything) though my reader said there was no valid feed found? Anyway, all the best for it - I know you will have a great experience.

From what I can tell, the big end bearing failed on his original engine. He then had some sort of trouble with the new engine but I've no idea what it was as he doesn't go on to say. He also says its 30% more powerful, so he's changed to or from a Yanmar type 404/416 to something else.

I've probably done 8k on my engine and she's running purrrfectly. Long may it continue. :)
