Dnepr, Ural frame engine fit
hi,
Are there multi cylinder ( 2, 3 ..) diesel engines around that fit into an unmodified Dnepr, Ural frame ?
That is, WITHOUT extending the upper and the lower frame tubes using any NON CVT gearbox ..
Thanx in advance,
Erik

Mouse is playing around with a Kubota Z482, which allegedly is a very tight fit, but he said something like it COULD fit in JUST by the millimetre.
The backbone of the frame sits quite low to be honest...

Mouse already build another multicyclinder in a russian frame. And it has not only NO CVT, it has generally no gearbox

Re: Dnepr, Ural frame engine fit
I am aware of that (I was granted a testride on that 1.9L steed last spring), but the question was for UNMODIFIED frames, which limits things pretty much.

Re: Dnepr, Ural frame engine fit
I think it limits to zero.
With absolute no modifications there are only single cylinders. Like this one:

I think the multicylinder bikes with the least frame modifications are these two: Both using the watercooled Kipor V2.

Re: Dnepr, Ural frame engine fit
Engine in line with the frame to fit on the gearbox i assume.
It depends size of the engine, 2 cyl Hatz don't fit without stretch the frame.
Punsun 2 cyl V-shape wil probably fit.

Re: Dnepr, Ural frame engine fit
Hi -
I don't have anything to add on Ural - mine is stretched in all 3 planes to accomodate Daihatsu triple - but my mate built a bike around a Kubota 500cc twin from an Aixam microcar, into a Guzzi V50 frame. He retained the Guzzi gearbox, and from memory I think the frame is unstretched (though there may have been a little downtube bending required). It's a really nice job - would you like me to try to obtain more details / a photo?
cheers
Mark

Mark, are you referring to Adam Pawlikowski's Guzzi V50 with Kubota Z482. If so, I'd love to see those pics and videos again. They've virtually disapppeared from the world wide web. My memory also was that he didn't stretch the frame.

I considered the Guzzi for my Daihatsu but aren't the clutches a bit of a nightmare?
I'd almost given up on finding RHS shaft Jap stuff but am currently thinking Honda ST1100 or Pan European....maybe not!

Re: Dnepr, Ural frame engine fit
hey Ron - Adam's more famous than I knew! So I don't bugger this thread up any more I'll start a new one called V50/Kubota in the 'bike building' area.
cheers

The V50 and V65 are using a automotive style clutch, the bigger models a special GUZZI design.Stuart wrote:I considered the Guzzi for my Daihatsu but aren't the clutches a bit of a nightmare?
Reliable, but expensive when the splines in the flywheel are worn.
