High flying diesels

Post by XLerate »

Hi all!

Stumbled on an interesting & rather surprising website:

http://www.dieselair.com/

Seems there's some high flying sky boys of a similar mind to us! I'd heard of diesel airplanes, but didn't know there was a website dedicated to them.

Obviously weight is a serious thing with aircraft so the info may cross over to our bikes?

Check out 'Diesel Air Ltd' a UK company - 92kg engine producing 100hp @ 2500 rpm! Torque would be unreal! So would the price. My apologies for not putting a link thingy in this note, I'm a bit illiterate with computers. Cheers, Brian H. PS, google dair aero engine

Interesting - shame about the limited revs and the 2 stroke element. Reliable though :D

Well ... I introduced them more than 10 Years ago on my very first website about dieselmotorcycles (ok, in german language).
It can still be viewed in the waybackmachine on archive .org

There is a very simple reason nobody has used such a flying diesel for building a motorcycle. Ask for their price.
The "prices" Site on www.dair.co.uk is simply plain white.
If you take a look at www.deltahawkengines.com, they want you to give them $62,500 for an engine kit that can be build in an airplane.

Nice links, would have loved to taken a Diesel plane for a fly, I'm no longer current, although it could happen. Why they never gave it a go years ago I don't know, weight would be one thing I guess, but the Continental engines are no lightweights anyway.

A ;)
