Punsun 20hp ..any good ?
There's a second hand Punsun 20hp V twin for sale here . It looks good but I've read a variety of comments on this engine here, most of it not so good .
What do you think ? I'd want to fit it to an Enfield .
Model is PS836A but the nameplate says HT812D
Type: V-twin、4-stroke、air-cooled、direct-injection
Max.output: 20HP
Max.speed: 3600r/min
Max. torque: 48N.m/2400r/min
Fuel consumption:≤298g/kw.h
Rotation direction (at output end): counter-clockwise
Noise(7m)≤84dB
Luboil capacity: 1.7L
Net weight: 56KG

Re: Punsun 20hp ..any good ?
Well I have been doing a little searching since Punsun put up its Ebay store. They now say that the 25hp engine is really 18hp continuous and 20hp max. the 22hp is 16/18hp. They no longer list the 812cc engine which we bought three of were claimed to be 20hp but are really 14/15hp. Our engines have the name KingPoo cast into the cases. A little more digging shows they were really built by Haimer YGao Power Machinery. That kind of goes with the theory they are all made in the same place and painted a different colour. On a really good day with the stars all aligned my bike can crawl up to 74mph but is huffing black smoke like crazy. I can almost guarantee the timing is off as all three engines we have were badly timed. The engine seems to run okay and after two seasons of beating on it shows no signs of failure. I put a link in the Where to Buy Engines Online that is in the chat thread. Brand new we paid $725USD plus shipping which worked out to $1250 each with taxes custom etc. If you can pull the oil suction screen out and look for chunks of metal if the price is right and it runs it should be a good little engine. Here is a link to the company that builds them that states the rated power http://www.made-in-china.com/showroom/d ... V86F-.html

Thanks Sean,a great response .
The next question is will one fit in an Enfield frame ? It has to be an Enfield as our registration Department is cruel and oppressive ! Yours is in a Honda but do you know if it will go into an Enfield without cutting the frame ?
Does that make the one I'm looking at a real 14.5 hp ? It's hard to tell them apart .

Re: Punsun 20hp ..any good ?
From what I can tell it is a 15hp engine. That does not mean it can't make 20hp for a short period of time. I'm starting to think turbo for mine over the winter. Thundercougerfalconbird has a turbo on one I have not seen any updates if it is still alive or not. And yes it appears from the video it can be put in an Enfield but it will take some mods to the frame as is with most diesel conversions. My frame is 90% new mostly for style. I still have the backbone, neck, downtube, forks, wheels, brakes, and axle plates from the CB500T (Oh ya and the Serial number). It is a very simple machine with the CVT and the fact it has been clocked by GPS at 74mph when it was fresh and new says the engine can make more than 15hp. I have probably let 20 people ride it and they all get of with this silly grin on their faces. I will ride it till it dies then build something new based on what I learn along the way. And now it does not vibrate it is a built in massage feature just like those fancy cars have . I rode the bike to work on the 8th we had a rare 10C morning and 16C in the afternoon for this time of year. Riding the bike to work saves me $10 in gas per round trip.

Hey Sibbo,
Yes it should fit into an Enfield frame if you strip down the front tube. As you can see in the Video.
Those enfields are running the 836cc version of that engine which was a desaster.
The 812er seems to be more relieable.
regards
Hans

Re: Punsun 20hp ..any good ?
yes its true, i have a turbo on a prototype 836, so far i havent broken it, and i run it fairly hard, the turbo does increase power, i could pull 140km without turbo on a good day, and no it will pull 160km per hour, and the bike is 520 pounds, big heavy thing, so cruising speeds of 130 or so are nice and not working it to death, HOWEVER i really need to add an intercooler, it gets REALLY hot, also going to play with timing and stuff i have it set to 21 degrees, i fixed the fuel limit screw too, drilled the block up by the pump and put an adjusting screw there to make it easier to adjust.
its been a very tuff engine, waiting for it to pop.

Thanks Hans ... 812cc ...noted .It looks as though missing out on the one in the photo above may have been a blessing . It's an 836cc model .

Most we ask for is Quality Control and to know if the issue of breaking cranks has been addressed and how so..... and if it has..... approx. date improved model hit the market so we know what to buy/not buy

Punsun Kurbelwelle von bigzark auf Flickr
It is this what most builders are afraid of.
This happens back in 2008 and several times. At least in germany were then barely motorcycles built with a Punsun engine.

Should be make the two central point in same line , if there is component force , it will make the crankshaft broken .zarquon wrote:

Your point seems to get lost in translation from Chinese to English; at least for me it does. Please try rewording it a different way.punsunV2engine wrote: ...

Side note- If Im not mistaken majority of the cranks that have broken where pre installed in the engine and never removed till AFTER they broke.

No appology needed. Understand the difficulty. Have a good friend; also chinese (Liao), that lived and worked with me for five years when he first came to US. Also have many cohorts in my field I deal with often from Russia, Bulgaria, Ukrain and other countries as well, so rather use to the difficulty in translating technical information.punsunV2engine wrote:coachgeo wrote:punsunV2engine wrote: ...

Suggested the rewrite to better get your intended informaiton across is all. Found that almost any time translation is involved it is rather normal to have to re communicate a few times to get everyone on the same page. Just takes patience on all sides and asking questions.
Look forward to great discussions with you and all fully understanding each others points. Excited to have you on the board to discuss Punsun engines

Ok, may I suggest that the Punsun team increase quality first and then horsepower ratings.
Large horsepower is pointless unless Punsun team can successfully create an engine that is super reliable.
Here is the link to the 30 hp ---> http://www.vtwinengine.com/list/65.html
