Hi there!
My name's Greg, I am 28, currently studying to become a teacher for secondary modern and grammar school and I just bought a Enfield Diesel 325 (not a Taurus, because it was retrofitted with a 325cc Lombardini). Actually it is the second time I possess it, as I already was the owner of it 4 years ago, when I took it in as parts of a payment for a sidecar, I had built for someone else. But I never managed to ride it, because a friend bought it, before it even made it to my shed.
It was very difficult to register Diesel-Bikes in Austria in the past and that's why there's nearly none up to the current point. So I mainly bought the Enfield because of the papers... I plan to fit something a "little" stronger than the 325cc engine during the snowy months. I am thinking of either upgrading the engine to 400cc (if possible, as there's various versions and the original Taurus-Greaves-Cotton-Diesel is said to have the barrel cast in the crankcases) or getting a new engine, which could either be some nice Lombardini 440 or 435 (because only minimal mods are necessary and I could quite easily legalize it) or get a Yanmar clone and use that.
Oh... and there's a plan for a Diesel-powered Dnepr in the making, not at last, because of Mr. Mouse's bad influence. Although it won't be a super-badass 1.9L Diesel, but something a little more moderate... depends mostly on what I can find on the cheap and somewhat locally.
Oh yes, I ride all year round and before working on becoming a teacher, I used to have a proper engineering background...
Cheers,
Greg

Nanno, there's a few of your countrymen with dieselbikes. At least one of em is on the forums, a Dnepr conversion I think.
'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up stainless exhaust, check engine rpm and change final drive sprocket.
Re: Hello from Austria
Dnepr Conversion ? Must be ZEM then.
Hi Max, are you just lurking around, or is there a secret vicious plan ?
Cheers,
Greg

Hey Greg,
good to read you here at this forum, too.
I used to have an enfield diesel, too.
We should have a talk about the different enfield conversations and their advantages and disadvantages.
regards
Hans

Hi Greg
Now you have to get your students building bikes. I do it in my classroom under manufacturing. Each little part becomes a design and build project for students. We have 5 lathes, one vertical mill, one horizontal mill, tube bender, english wheel, planishing hammer, bandsaws, drill presses, MIG and Tig welding, a good lot of hand tools. I to started out doing engineering in the airlines and switched to teaching its a much more stable work enviroment.

Re: Hello from Austria
I'd love to, unfortunately the Austrian education system isn't quite ready for that, or at least the subjects I teach, aren't quite up to that challenge, yet!
