Whisker's New Build
I'll start this thread as Whisker's has no internet presently. Just a few shots of his latest build. To be honest we were more busy clearing the workshop and eating breakfast than working on the bike. But that will come together I'm told in it's most basic form ready for the Bulldog Bash

Cool,
What engine is it using?

Kubota Z482 which is plodding on with unnerving reliability. Three years so far.

It's from a large Merc van (as seen in BSH). Can't remember exactly what type tho. But I knew it would tickle your fancy there Mouse

Re: Whisker's New Build
Another update. The workshop floor is finished and work has started on the bike now. The wheels you see are only for show - bike wheels will be used to finish it. Alternator has been moved and various bits moved or removed such as power steering pump etc. Also wooden dowls made to help align bevel box before the real thing was made.
On a slightly different topic Whiskers has acquired an Aixam car complete with Kubota twin engine. It may well come to the big knock (2011) Saturday afternoon

Re: Whisker's New Build
Chris, the bevel box is from a saw mill. Because of that they reckon it will be able to take some abuse. If I were that bevel box sitting behind that engine I'd be trembling tho. It may well be tested to destruction

Re: Whisker's New Build
He wasn't able to say exactly what type it was at time of texting but did say it was 308D 2.3 litre. I suspect it is probably the older OM601 model but we'll have to wait for more details I'm afraid.

Is there a gearbox in there or is it a "mouse special" ?

Re: Whisker's New Build
No box I passed on the following to Mouse after phoning Whiskers last week. I was told 1-5 ratio. 1 - 1-3/4 , engine to bevel box. Output bevel box sprocket 15T Rear wheel 45T. 4-3/4. Does that make sense Anyway, that's what's on this scrap of paper here. He's gonna use the line locked clutch to rescue him from DOOM I think, sitting astride that monster I can't wait to see it on the road
Neil, maybe a ride over to see it soon

Re: Whisker's New Build
Cool, I am liking the non-gearbox gearbox stuff! Just shows how flexible the diesel engine is in comparison to a petrol with narrow power band.
Hmm would be interested to see the beast!

Re: Whisker's New Build
Do you have more closeup pics of the frame?
I like the lines of it.
Keep up the job.

Re: Whisker's New Build
I agree! If it's taken from a 308D and has 2.3 litres it has to be a OM601. Good engine!Stuart wrote:He wasn't able to say exactly what type it was at time of texting but did say it was 308D 2.3 litre. Re: Whisker's New Build
I stopped by the Wiskery ones place for a cuppa yesterday before heading to the Ardingly show. The seats are now fixed at the front and sprung at the front by truck clutch springs. The front suspension is very stiff and they are thinking of cutting the springs back a little there. Brian is starting to look at the lighting now and showed us a copper/brass headlamp which looked quite unique. He was also brandishing a solid looking indicator. both could be labelled Steampunk and so don't be surprised if the bike kind'a looks that way
Didn't take anymore shots though. It's these guys build and don't wanna steal their thunder. You'll have to be patient for the unveiling whenever that is?

Re: Whisker's New Build
Takes a certain type of persons [I won't say exactly WHICH type] to look at an engine & radiator sitting on a wooden table & say, "Stuart, I see a motorcycle in there somewhere..." and "Ah, yes, I see it too, now you mentions it..."
One beautiful build so far, can't wait to see the end results!

Re: Whisker's New Build
Whisker's tells me he is sorting some final clutch problems before taking the bike to the Bulldog bash this weekend. There it will be run up the drag strip and I for one wish him well
Any shots or film of the bike that emerges may show the bike minus some trim as they have been up against it time wise so bear that in mind
