EGT gage

Post by balboa_71 »

Can someone recommend an exhaust gas temperature gage that can be adapted to a single cylinder engine? It's time I get one for tuning.... I'm also looking for a combo amp and voltage meter to monitor my bikes charging system and battery health.

Thanks,
Cris

there is one from aircraft spruce & specialty that is fairly cheap and works great. Only problem it will be days to a week or 2 before I might be able to dig out the part numbers

Chris,
I've installed a 2 1/8" ISSPRO. Remains to be seen how it works. The presence of the blower plenum and the propane fumigation tank in the pic below is evidence of the need.

I've got a couple of Alcor EGT's from my flying days but they're designed principally for mixture control at altitude and don't actually measure temp. Of little value for tuning. I've often wondered whether an infared thermometer would suffice for tuning purposes. The one below is good for 1200 degrees. But, you can get them for higher temps quite reasonably

TedV, Okay well if you get the numbers and can post, that's cool, thanks. I found two websites selling the gage/meter and probe for $106 plus shipping.

Ron, What kind of rig do you have there with a blower plenum attached? Some kind of pressurized intake manifold?

Thanks,
Cris

there might be better deals out there now, but notes show what I used on my autocross diesel:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/i ... stegt2.php gage $64.75
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/i ... probes.php part # 10-01478 $37.75
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/i ... ghting.php light kit $5.75

I drilled the cast iron manifold and tapped it for the probe. There are clamp on probes listed if you want to mount on a pipe. I also used the 7' extention lead for the car, 10-01480

Just a little 3 stage blower pushing 4 lbs of boost. The plenum is well in excess of the required 3X's the displacement. Fueling coupled with the propane remains the challenge. We'll see if the clone can take it.
