A Hatz ID81 for an Enfield ?

Post by Sibbo »

I've found a second hand and little used Hatz ID81 for sale .Is this a suitable engine for an Enfield conversion ?

Will it fit ? It looks BIG on specs.I haven't seen the motor yet ,just spoken to the shop on the phone.

Sibbo,
I don't know about using an Enfield frame, but a larger frame could work if you cut the top back bone tube and integrate the top of the engine as part of the frame. You'd have to forget the fuel tank, and mount a tank either under the seat or along side the rear wheel and use a lift pump to get fuel to the injector. It's doable.......

Ron, that Rigdon bike engine looks like two cylinders from a radial aircraft engine....

Thanks Cris , I couldn't get away with cutting a frame in NSW .They're VERY strict about modifications .

That's the Gunbus built in Germany utilizing 2 jugs from the 1000 hp Russian or Polish Shvetsov ASH-62 built under license by the Ruskies from the Wright R-2600. May still be in production - they just can't stop building it. On the bike I believe it comes out to 410 cubic inches or about 6700 cc's. Dwarfs the Hatz.

Yeah, the Gunbus is a real HUGE bike.
Check it out on : http://www.leonhardtweb.de/en/gunbus/design.htm

Here are two more images from the build process.

You can see the Dieselbike in the background and get a feel of the size of the gunbus.

And here is an image of the finished dieselbike called "Ebster"

Hi Sibbo - if modifying a frame is a hassle in NSW, how about building a frame from scratch? It would be a new frame, not a modified frame. Just a thought, cheers, Brian
