ECU for CDI engines

Post by bean juice »

Hi all.

What are the options for aftermarket or at least programmable ECU's for multi cylinder CDI diesel engines? I have a project that I'm in the planning stages for that is based around an 800cc Smart CDI. The engine I have didn't come with the ECU (or 3 ECUs as the case may be), and I'd really like to get this motor running without having to source the Smart ECUs and mess about with both modifying the wiring harness (and mounting all 3 boxes), and then having to try to remap the ECU to meet my needs. For those of you building bikes around the Smart CDI, what are you using for engine and injection control?

Regards

Here's a bit of what I've found out there. I have emails out to them and I'll follow up if I find anything that people here may find useful. I'm purposefully leaving out the sites from Bosch and Dephi as those systems start at the 6K (and up) euro price point and are therefor out of the price range I think most of us are in.

Are these familiar to anyone here?

had some contact with the bootsdiesel folks some years ago. i was looking to use a MB 5cylinder automotive diesel keelcooled with dry exhaust in a steel boat and was looking for a transmission. they had several options but the whole package was just too long and took too much interior room in the worst part of the boat. but the thought of that smart diesel with a saildrive makes me very excited.

I'm aware of a 450 hp 2.0L VW TDI project that's using one of these ECUs: http://www.skynam.com/

450 hp from a 2 litre VAG TDI? Will they be changing the engine every 500 miles?
'92 Enfield + Hatz 1B40: street legal, weld up stainless exhaust, check engine rpm and change final drive sprocket.

It's a rather extensive build, and the owner will be running a 350-400 hp tune in normal use.

We can run the SMART CDI engine with our Hurricane engine management system as well as most other common rail diesel engines.

Thank you for your input. We of course do not want a biz to just occasionally pop in here to pimp their products. Thus, we look forward to advice hints and suggestions from a business such as yours. Being a friendly "partner" in our crazy quest will get you much more business than pimping anyway.
