I've been a longtime motorcycle rider, since I was 17. Have well over 100k miles under my belt on-road and lots off road. I was researching putting a small diesel "Yanclone" engine in my old IH Cub Cadet when I came across your group. Also, I lived in South America for 7 years and while there I replaced a 6 cylinder inline gas engine with a 4 cylinder Toyota 14BT turbo diesel in a Toyota Landcruiser I owned. I went from 10 mpg to 28 mpg, went from climbing mountain passes in 2nd gear to climbing them in 4th and 5th gear. What a beast that machine came to be. I did a writeup of that when I did it and last I knew it was still hosted here: http://tinyurl.com/2vqxajt Besides that vehicle I've also owned a VW Rabbit Diesel (that I learned a lot about working on them out of necessity). I bought it with a warped head cheap and then I did a lot of work rebuilding it etc. After that I owned a Ford F250 4x4 with the old 6.9L Navistar diesel.
After these experiences of riding motorcycles and enjoying using and working on diesels it's only natural that I'd want to make a diesel bike. I plan to sell my BMW K100LT this Spring when the prices are higher but I am hoping to try to build a diesel bike possibly this winter.
I also like building airplanes from kits or from scratch.
I saw there is someone in NW Ohio, someone else in Michigan, someone in northern Indiana and another in the Chicago area in this group. Perhaps we could get together sometime. I'd be willing to host.
Jeff
