enfield primary case
Hello!
I'm a dutch guy builing a nice enfield diesel. I've got a few questions about the primairy chain/housing.
When I put the motor on the diy motorplate I can't put the diesel close enough to the gearbox. The axel of the engine is not
in the middle of the primairy case hole. Lets say I'ts 1 cm to to the front of the bike. The throttle lever hitting the gearbox.
Is it a problem and how did you guys solve this problem?
question 2. My diesel (hatz immitation) has only one oil drain plug. It's is at the gearbox side so thats a problem. How t solve this? Just dril a big hole for the plug?
Thanks!

I guess you need to trim it to size. If you change the distance between crank and gearbox you will get other problems like not being to use the standard primary chain, chain tensioner in a different (wrong?) spot and perhaps lubrication. When I put the motor on the diy motorplate I can't put the diesel close enough to the gearbox. Are you sure it's not a Yanmar clone? I would add a drain plug in an easily accessible place. Taking the bike apart for an oil change seems like something you would want to avoid. Also the dipstick might be a problem, I know it is in my case. Sommer apparently plugs the hole on their Hatz conversions, and adds a good bit of length so you don't deskin your knuckles checking the oil level and it makes for easier refilling as well.question 2. Re: enfield primary case
the best place for a drainplug would be the bottom of the engine.
The tapping and drilling is not a problem but how to keep aluminum out of the engine? I don't think that the engine is gonna love bits of alu in the oil.
Thanks.

Or lots of grease on the tip of your tap
Metal chips are cought in the grease.

You can take of the side cover of the engine, so not harming the head gasket or anything.., so you can clean out the engine with ease.
These engines are constructed in a way, you can replace the piston without removing the cylinder head.. it's cool!

Hi!
Did open the engine case and tappet a m8 hole . Verry nice engine indeed. So simpele and easy to work on.
Also started the engine and made little tour trough the neighbourhood.
I'm gonna buy a better mufler! The bike sounds like a machinegun.
I can buy a muffler from a damaged yamaha chopper (10 euro) paint it black an hopefully a nice and "sillent" engine

I had temporarily mounted a Guzzi V50 muffler. The sound from the exhaust could be compared to loud puffing at elevated rate. The diesel knock however, was still very loud. I suspect the same will apply to your Yanclone.

Re: enfield primary case
yeah i know
But can you do something to the knocking? That is a thing that direct injection diesels do right?
Would be nice to be sillent and not a loud machinegun

Especially when new, the engine knocks a lot, like i told you..
buy good ear plugs!
and when you add some salad oil, the knocking gets less, but in winter harder to start 9then you need to spray deodorant in the air filter housing)
After 10 K, the engine runs smoother.
