Guzzi Ray's Yanmar Diesel hardtail chopper build
Spent the afternoon at Guzzi Rays place bouncing ideas around concerning his throttle linkage. I think we came up with a solution in the end. Here's a few shots of his bike coming together. He tells me its gonna have the frame welds tidied up a bit when it comes apart and he's decided to use a suicide shifter to liven things up a bit (note the tiny skull protruding up there ). It's a hard tail with extra cog there for the rear chain.
Interestingly the engine (Yanmar L70AE - DE2YC) 296cc also carries the name Cagiva, Made in Italy
PS: Ray has his bike on stand which originally started out as an old hospital bed. It works the same way as a bike lift and can be jacked up and down

Hmmm 296cc I reakon on about 6hp.....
It's a lot of work for 40mph tops, not that I have any criticisms, it's just that small HP bikes require a lot more skill to ride, try pulling away on a moped with a pillion and you will understand.
Cheers
Dave

Yes the engine label reads 6.7ps. Ray's hoping for 55mph but he knows that's pushing it. The engine sounds good though, preferable to a clone methinks.

Hopefully Ray can answer this in a bit more detail when he's on but he said he's had experience of hardtails and it was preferable to have this cog in there. Can't remember exactly what he said about it now, sorry

Sorry but I dont follow, top chain same length as bottom with no idler. So when throtling down all the slack is transfered to top that does not have the idler.

i must say that is a fine looking hatdtail.. i am building one similar, but not as far along as yours.. i have quite a bit of welding at the moment to get completed..

Heard from Ray today. He got his bike through the registration process here in the UK so now all that's left is the MOT test and then he's on the road!

Re: Guzzi Ray's Yanmar Diesel hardtail chopper build
im building a bike with the same engine engine only a clone. what ended up being the top speed? what transmission is that?
Re: Guzzi Ray's Yanmar Diesel hardtail chopper build
Brilliant build Ray - love it.
One word of warning... from your video your idle speed sounds very low, around the 700-800rpm mark. The spec for the engine idle speed is 1200rpm and it needs this to get oil pumped around when idling. Would hate to see your engine buggered after all that hard work!

I forget what the box is but seem to remember Ray was thinking of changing it for something better. I think that was mentioned at the rally.toad wrote:guzzi
