Re: Electra AVL engine oil system

Hi, I allways have time for any type engine problem be it petrol or diesel. Ok some enfields around 2005(not sure about leanburn model but probably) have an oil pressure relief valve fitted in the crank flywheel (a sprung ball bearing in a seat). These are known to stick open and give problems, Ther...

Hi Zem, You could do as I did and mount a car battery in the sidecar boot. I threaded the battery cables inside washing machine water hoses(no chance of shorting) used rubber grommets where they passed through the boot floor and led them up to the bike. The battery weight in the car makes for better...

Hi, Looks like a handlebar kill switch might be required. Broke ribs myself in an enfield crash, they take ages to heal I had to sleep in a sitting position for 2 weeks as to lie down was accompanied by extreme pain. Get well soon as cant wait to hear about more escapades on this seemingly cursed bik...

Hi Mouse,
Are you sure its a collet issue? looks to me like the valve spring cup broke up (they look thin and flimsy in pic). Great looking bike by the way, can you gear it up for less rpm?

Hi Buckles, Oldtimer sells quality parts but at a price, I got my final drive gears from him and have no regrets (much better quality than Ural Zentrale). Hi,
The enfield regulator gives problems at only 100 watt output, I think at 200w you need a better one.

Hi,
If the oil level drops too low the crank webs stop throwing oil up into the bores, the oil pump still supplies oil to the bearings etc as its at the bottom end of the sump. Hense the piston overheats and locks up.

Hi,
Looks like lack of oil, I would think your oil level dropped below the level of the crankshaft webs and so was not throwing oil up into the bores hense seisure.

Hi all, I worked on the 20hp Bukh and its watercooled with a choice of closed loop or seawater cooling. With seawater cooling the water is pumped out into the exhaust. A sacrificial zinc anode is fitted into the block to try and prevent corosion. An engine would need to be all cast iron to withstand...

Hi Mouse,
It's gonna be great. To allign gearbox take the flywheel and clutch to your friend with the lathe and ask him to center the friction plate for you, once under spring pressure it wont move and will allow you to mate gearbox perfectly.

Hi Buckles, Great to hear your up and running. I took mine for a ride today and still get a great kick out of it. One mod I would suggest is to have a small coolant resevoir mounted higher than the motor as cracked heads were commonplace on this engine if the coolant was allowed to run low. You will...
