may be able to get a weaker spring in the vacuum dashpot to make it open sooner, then you can put a boost controller and turn it up from there.

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
That 10hp engine isnt flowing enough exhaust to get into the max turbine flow area, its not spinning the turbine fast enough to keep the wheel efficient. This turbo is made to flow up to 125hp so its like taking a turbo from a vehicle making 850hp and putting it on an engine making 100hp and wonderi...

Re: Disappointing turbo performance
I dont think the engine has enough heat energy to spin the turbine wheel fast enough causing the exhaust to be restrictive, like Ive said since the beggining of the post if you are not spinning the turbine wheel fast enough, each blade is acting like a wall holding back exhaust flow. Look how the tu...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
Another question; since this turbo is effectively running off of heat energy, would increasing the exhaust temperature, per se, increase the turbo's efficiency? Is using a hotter burning fuel an option? Kerosene? Naptha? Mothballs? Yes, but I dont think you will ever get it into its efficiency rang...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
By the way, so far I've tried changing the final drive a couple of times. 53mph seems to be the limit regardless if it is revved out in 5th or chugging along in 5th (or 4th for that matter). I would think the reason 53mph is the constant speed is because the engine is making close to the same hp at...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
I think you meant the engine is too small to create enough heat energy for the turbo and I agree 100% I was just trying to clarify that the items you mentioned arent going to get his engine to spool the turbo any better. The engine is putting 8whp to the ground @3600 rpm and probably no more than 6w...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
There is no need for an intercooler or internal mods for this application especially in 30f temps. I have 4 personal vehicles with homemade turbos and have turbo quite a few friends cars, My wifes car has stock internals running 7lbs boost for 142k miles My truck has stock internals running 7lbs and...

Re: Turbocharging the Yan-clone L100: End of the Trail?
You still dont get it, just because it makes boost doesnt mean its in the efficiency range. It is lagging causing it to be restrictive , the intake plenum is big enough to flow 200hp to a 4 cylinder. Their is no need for a plenum like that and the reed cage is useless they have 1000hp 4 cylinder eng...

I have the 94c 90d setup the driven is 10" dia. but just to add a little to my earlier statement just because yours had a larger driven doesnt mean much until you know the dia. of the drive in the lowest engagement, it would be nice if you could find info on the ratio range of your model.

CVT arrived in Tx at Curtis's place. They're a bit bigger than Comet units buttt......if the secondary/driven is larger diameter then should have a higher top range than the Comet's? Depends on the diameter that the primary starts and ends ,the belt starts on the top of the driven so chances are it...

Re: Disappointing turbo performance
I'll try putting things in perspective a bit. I've got a 75bhp diesel car engine (in my car) with turbo. And i think the turbo is about simular/smaller than yours. Whenever i want to get that max power from it it easily pushes the pressure to double that of the atmosphere (not comfortable with psi ...

Re: Disappointing turbo performance
The turbo is too big, not too small. Just because you have boost pressure doesnt mean its spinning fast enough to get out of lag. The engine cant even make the WG open, most engines could make 25-35lbs of boost when the turbo is sized properly and you use the WG to keep the boost at your desired lev...

A turbo spins at over 100000rpm, it would be a fan . If you wanted to belt drive a smog pump would be better option

Re: Disappointing turbo performance
I dont think you need to be precise but the best chance you have at getting it to spool is to making the turbo manifold and charge pipe shorter. Yea it sounds like yours would be hard to take off in a church parking lot without completely smoking the tire down. The manual may be more fun but I doubt...

Re: Disappointing turbo performance

Just looked at a pic of the turbo both sides are clockable but you would need to make it back to a bolt hole to keep the actuator rod straight.

I think its the compressor housing that is clockable on this turbo, their are four bolts with small tabs loosen tap the cover away from the CHRA and clock it, If I remember corectly you have to go atleast far enough to hit the next bolt hole if you are using the wastegate actuator but to be honest I...

Re: Disappointing turbo performance
You want the exhaust manifold to be as short as possible and dia. small enough to make the turbo spool, it uses heat energy. I wouldnt worry about making the gate open all the way, if your small engine ever gets to the 10lb gate open pressure all it takes is a tiny opening to keep it there. I was sa...

Re: Disappointing turbo performance
Is their any way to get a boost pressure reading at the plenum mounted to the engine? I dont see a need for an additional plenum with that length of charge. pipe. A turbo is a big restriction in the exhaust flow if the compressor side isnt getting the charge into the engine, it all has to work toget...

As far as the chain stretch goes an o-ring 530 chain with a tensioner should handle our dinky engines pretty well. I ride my mildly tweaked 115hp Bandit 1200 like a raped ape and get +10K out its o-ring 530 chain. The biggest mistake I made with chains in my youth was running them too tight. Also, ...

Re: More compact mounting of CVT
Anyways, I saw that comment about chain stretch and just couldn't let it go by. Sure, chain stretch is a potential issues, sort of. But the main incidence of chain stretch isn't from a chain just sitting there spinning between a couple of sprockets! No, it occurs with a moving swingarm, plus a CHAI...
