Microcar show int the UK

Not really bikes, but may be one or two diesels or of interest - it's the MICROCAR SHOW! UK at Cranwell nr Grantham/Newark, Fri/Sat/Sun, at the microcar museum & the paddock outside: http://www.bubblecarmuseum.co.uk/rallies.shtml I'll be there on Sunday, sadly not on a diesel bike :( But cup of ...

You have an issue! Check out your compression and injector spray, if you draw a blank take a look at the injection timing and advance it a little, retarded timing caused a lot of troubles starting. Greg. Really? Wow! My bike is the worst starting vehicle I have ever seen in my entire life!. Do you h...

Re: Police Encounter

You were riding at midnight and you didn't have a rear light? And you were riding without a proper licence/not having passed your full test? And you only got a £70 fine? Personally, as we get parking tickets double that value, I'd have thought being locked up for the night and appearing in court wou...

Congratulations!!!! Well Done!!! :D Send us some video's or pictures when you can. Greg. Yippee The bike is running  (Still with diesel) but after mor than 3 years of waiting for that moment it's really graet. The next hurdle is to pass the technical control (TÜV) wich is not evident in Germa...

Great load of info Neil, thanks ;-) I'll take back what I said, seems to be a good engine maybe the mpg not being 'that' staggering is more to do with relatively poor aerodynamics/weight on the Smart. In a good body or a bike with a good tuning setup to optimise for performance looks like this baby ...

Hi Neil, Yes most of what you say makes sense there. I would say, don't be frightened by things like 'data for how many injections per cycle' and worrying about fuel pressure, the good thing about diesel is that once you have air in the cylinder if you inject diesel very predictable things happen. I...

That would be GREAT. There are 3 systems, controlling an electronic pump such as the VP37 bosch (I think voltage or pulse width modulation of solonoids to move leavers in the pump controling fuel delivery and advance), controlling a common rail (generally control a bank of 4 solonoid injectors with ...

I run www.small-engine.co.uk and do twin tank vegoil conversions. Give me an email/pm if you have any q's. Sounds like a great idea you have, there are a few considerations to running on oil but nothing you can't overcome.

that's great!

I have a gpz305 I fancy turboing in the future, the other smallest turbo in the world is from a small industrial diesel, the Lombardini TD025M-03C. I gather it's about the same size, the whole unit is smaller than a coke can!

Volvo did that with a car. I am not sure I'd like to be hooked to a trailer most of the time (unless short distance commuting) but I think you might be able to get away without tax if the batteries it charges are 'unhooked' as if it's charging a battery that's connected to the motor it's a no no. Ho...

proposal to improve hp of single cylinder yanmar etc

Another wild though, taken from some experience in diesel engines and experiements with turbos and fuel economy in general. Essentially most people want more hp, but these little engines don't produce that much - going to a v-twin doubles it but nearly doubles the weight. The common choice is the (r...

Interesting company info, thanks! By alternator, I was referring to the the sort in cars, typical in the uk from 1970-present, which have electric windings on stator and rotor. Here is a fairly modern Scooter coming on to the market, some of the technology is a bit out of step though. It's probably as good as anything around commercially and wrapped up nicer - worth a look! Then imagine taking the battery pack out and putting an engine in that could do 200mpg+ http://www.v...

Thanks for your support Lex! I agree, it's good to keep thinking big, at least as a wannabe designer, an example of what happens when you stand still would be the great british bike industry in the 60's. The Chinese EV scooters go through SVA with it no problem.

Of course you can add a 'home cooked' disk brake system you nicked off another bike as well, nothing to stop you, and have both - with regen braking providing the braking normally.

Weight does not make any difference to top speed on a flat anyhow. Aerodynamic drag (Cx) and rolling resistance do. The wheel motor and generator would weigh considerably less than a typical gearbox & drivetrain. Read about rare earth magnets (Neodymium, light) here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Diesel electric, hub motor, the way forward?

Hi guys, Not been on here a while but my friend looking at a BMW C1 got me thinking again. I'd love a diesel, I'd love a scooter, I'd love an enclosed. Mainly I wouldn't like a fixed timing generator engine trying (!!!) to accelerate a bike using variable speed ranges when it only runs good at one r...

It's an old fashioned Indirect Injection design, as far as I'm aware considering it's size and CC doesn't do much to a gallon. Also it's liquid cooled adding to weight. Don't know what weight the engine is but the Kubota's I have seen are pretty 'industrial' however would have to see one of these in...

If the punsen can be tweaked like you say the Yanmar liked and has a better mpg from direct injection that sounds very promising! I have no idea how durable/well made they are but it looks nice doesn't it. I was also struck how heavy the 10hp diesels are and how this weighs little more for double th...

Well perhaps not new idea! Hi all, uk guy here, well versed in bikes and diesel, but not diesel bikes. I have seen a yanmar type alloy v-twin 800cc direct injection diesel that is only a bit heavier than the single cylinder 10hp ones and is 20hp with electric start/alternator etc. If I do a project ...

Looks like a 1529cc Pug/Cit TUD5 Iron block, that correct? What you hook it out of? Lucas/CAV pump? How did you get the gearbox to bolt up?
