I can't seem to find a model or maker, so I'm assuming it's an imported clone of something. With the tanks and radiator relocated it's not a very large package and claims 23hp, which would be great since my hopes for adapting the D954 seem to be growing dim. It looks like it has a side output but I can't confirm that, either.
I just don't want to break bank over something that I'm intending to help offset rising fuel costs. I might end up just having to take what I can get and mating it to an IHI or similarly small turbo on low boost and trying to scrape an extra couples of horses from it so I can actually having passing speed.
Is anyone stateside running anything greater than, say 15hp? What engine are you using and where did you get it/what did it come off of?

Hi, personally I cant see this working out very well. The rpm is too low and it looks very heavy. Its a big big single and so I think will vibrate something else. I believe they are chinese made with quality to match.But in all fairness the biggest downfall is the rpm.

Just wondering - why did you decide to ditch the d950 3 cylinder idea?
There should be plenty of those engines around as they have a wide variety of applications verything from gensets, small forklift trucks and even in some cars! (though I don't think many daihatsu charades were sold in the states!!!(might be wrong with that model google and see!)) the engine in your post looked new so I imagine it would be a wallet buster, there is plenty of unloved industrial equipment out there that may be a source of an engine. In the uk some street sweepers are powered by Kubota 3 cylinder engines of around 18 - 20hp or ruggerini or lombardini types - just check that they have a variable speed or can be easily modified, some water pumps also use diesels running up to 3600 rpm, often compact twin cylinder units. If you look in the classified section you will see a link I posted under 'poss useful engine....'
Basically if it will fit in the frame, or fit with a few mods, has enough power, dosn't weigh too much then take a look!

The main reason I'm most likely passing on the 3cyl is the difference between expensive and cost effective and having a bike sooner as opposed to later. I'll check your classified post to see if it can lead me to greener pastures!
I think I fell into the excited stage to quickly and dreamed bigger than I can afford, so I guess from the outside it would seem as though I was backpeddling. lol

Ruggerini MD151 16.3 hp. Ruggerini MD 191 19 hp. Or the identical Lombardini flavor of either. Small, light, durable, air cooled and wont melt any wallets.pezfallout wrote:I see that now. I went back and reread it.

Blue Ridge Diesel should be able to put you on the right track if you are in the US. http://www.blueridgediesel.com/

Another thing to consider, and I know this is off topic for a diesel forum, would be buying something like a KLX 250 or a Ninja 250 as a very fuel efficient gas fueled motorcycle. They perform very well and get 75 miles per US gallon or so, and are available relatively inexpensively. They lack the cool factor of a diesel bike but provide reliable economical fun transportation.
